DIY: "malkoff" M30W (I'm is a custom modder)

I decided to order some parts and try my hand at modding a warm emitter drop in module to run on a single lithium cell. I am pleased enough to present to you the following:

Input voltage 1.2 - 4.2max
Warm Cree P4 emitter
Aluminum LOP textured reflector





First is the Dealextreme drop in module. on the ceiling
then on the flag
Next is my DIY warm single cell drop in module on the ceiling
then the flag
Next is my PT Eos with SSCP4 on high
then on the flag.

all photos taken with the same manual settings. Daylight color balance, 400iso 1/30 exposure F3.0 with my wife's new Samsung camera (that she got for Christmas!)

My thoughts:
It's not as bright as the DX drop in or any cool white cree but the color rendition makes up for it. The reflector offers plenty of throw but with some rings as you can see. This module produces plenty of heat and needs a host with plenty of metal.

Here are a couple of outdoor shots to show the greenery. First the eos with SSCp4 then the Warm drop in!.

be careful with that driver, i tried a single AW protected rcr123 and it goes kaput in 10 minutes time !
And yes i fried 2 of those in 30 minutes fresh from the envelope

I'll do a continuous run on it and see if the driver / emitter hold up. I think It's heatsinked it pretty well so It should survive.

It survived but got extremely hot. Not hot enough to catch anything on fire, but too hot to hold tightly. Is there a better choice for driver for this LED?

I wonder what Gene and Deerelight are using on their warm Cree's?

i have tried - sku 15880 / sku 6190 / sku 7879 / sku 7426 ( smaller )

all these are ok.
