Surefire KX1 head - modified with: Cree Q3 3A neutral emitter and a Sandwich Shoppe SOB at 1000 ma. These heads put out an amazing amount of light with a very natural color. They are $110 each.

All parts are new. These run about 45 minutes on 2 IMR1640 batteries, or about 1.5 hours on 2 Battery Station CR123a batteries. The beam is a nice neutral sun color, it is precisely centered and hand focused for optimum throw. I recommend the beamshaper for illuminating objects closer than 50 feet.

I have been making various modifications to KX1 heads for awhile now looking for the perfect 2 cell light, and as far as I am concerned this is it. With this light and a companion light for indoors (single cell multi-mode aluminum Bitz) I don't feel the need to look any further.

I also have a USED KX1 head with 2 Madmax Plus drivers (~1100 ma), Q5 WC emitter for $80. It runs on 2 Elite 1500 batteries, with a runtime of ~35 minutes. I will include 6 Elite 1500 batteries with this unit, and the 1/4 inch spacer. This has been my personal light for about 10 months, and I am switching to the head above. The body and beamshaper options are also available for this head.

Re: Surefire KX1, Q3 3A, 1000 ma, 4 available

I am sure I am just missing the price on the four but I don't see how much they are.
Are they the same as the used one you are also selling.

Thanks

The heads are $110. Sorry about that... I edited the 1st post and added the price.

According to the sandwich shoppe the SOB voltage is ~3V-16V. I tried one cell and it looks about the same as 2 cells. The only way to really verify this is to test it on an ammeter which I can't do because the heads are epoxied, but I will check it out on the next time I modify heads.

Forgive my ignorance - does this have a reflector, or an optic?

Re: Surefire KX1, Q3 3A, 1000 ma, $115 - 4 available

Can we get a beamshot next to any sort of incan?

It it can be blurry and not look good. I'm just not familiar with the 3A tint, I know it's warmer than the 5A.

Are you considering making a two mode head? A 1000mA high and a 1-10 lumen low would make an amazing light.

Oh, I'm also interested in seeing the shape of the beam when driven at that current.

I'll try to do beam shots tonight ...

I don't currently have plans to do any multi-mode heads.

Interested in one. PM sent with possible partial trade for my KX1 I intended to mod like this someday.

How does your custom diffuser differ from the SureFire F04? More or less diffuse?

thanks

It is less diffuse, and leaves a little throw along with the flood. If you request it when you order a beamshaper I will include the original F04 glass as well.
