I have a "string" (not stars but naked) of LED's that have been sitting for the last couple of years, is there anyway I can tell their output and color rating? Should I open one of the little capsules? The are, or should I say were a good LED at the time (I always buy close to the best).

Is it time for a giveaway?

Re: How do I identify an LED?

Can you take a picture? It should be easy to tell brand and model, but bin will be impossible.

Re: How do I identify an LED?

I know I originally had 10 and sold 2 (one is now in a M*g mod via a forum member, and one went to that very same member), 6 are remaining.

I pealed off some of the protective packaging to get a better image..

Does "XWOT" sound familiar? I'm not sure but it just came into my feeble mind.

Thanks again,

Re: How do I identify an LED?

They are Cree XR-E's, 3 bond wires means old P2-P4 bin. If you bought premium, they are most likely old P4 bins.

Re: How do I identify an LED?

I don't think there is any way to tell by looking. If you can recall when you bought them, you could research what Cree bins were the brightest & whitest at that time... if you are certain you did buy the "best".[/QUOTE

Not Cree!

Re: How do I identify an LED?

As you now know, they are Cree XR-Es of a P bin.

You can wire one of them up and test it next to a known P4 bin and see if there is a difference in output.
