Sorry for being picky but Robbie the robot was an entirely different character. From my reading the name of the Robot in Lost In Space was B9 (didn't know that).
Thanks for the post lead me to some interesting reading.
The actor was Bob May, RIP.
Loved that show as a kid, I had never even thought about someone being inside the robot.

Norm,
You are correct. Robbie and the B9 Enviromental Robot were operated by different people. I'm not even sure the robot was ever refered to as B9 in the show but that is it's designation.

Wasn't that the same robot that was in Forbidden planet. The one where Earl Holliman tries to get the robot to make whiskey for him

Forbiden Planet's robot is Robbie. He did make a guest appearance in an episode of Lost in Space though.
