I've been developing a line of LED mods for the Surefire M6. Full details of the MZ line here.

To make the machining and anodizing cost effective, a run of about 20 sinks is needed. This thread is an interest list for the sink kits, as well as built modules. Once I reach approx 20 pcs, I will go ahead with the machining but still accept orders until the batch is ready for anodizing and plating.

Please post orders for sink kits and builds in this thread. Builds discussed prior to this thread via PM take precedence. Otherwise build order will generally be determined by posting order here.

Delivery time is difficult to estimate, probably 4-8 weeks. EDIT: mid-March

I don't know if the inner contours of the M6 have changed, so these may or may not fit vintage M6s.

The sink kits are pictured below. You get one of the four versions of the black LED sinks and the other parts.

dsc1980ak8.jpg

Sink kits include:
- One of the following black type II anodized LED sinks (pictured from top row, L to R):
a) MZP7-3: (3) SSC P7 used w/ modified McR27XR
b) MZOX-4: Ostar + 3 Cree XRE emitters. Used with Fraen Ostar reflector, (2) McR17XR, and an McR19XR
c) MZXR-7: (7) Cree XRE emitters w/ McR19XR
d) MZXR-5: (5) Cree XRE emitters w/ McR19XR
- Universal contact piece, gold chromate, fits all of the above. Includes SS #3-48 ground screw and features cavity for Shark or similar sized board.
- #6-32 SS black oxide bolts for bolting LED sink to contact piece
- 7/64" hex key for above
- 0.55" blue (+) contact board w/ #6-32 rivet nut installed
- SS low profile bolt, threads into rivet nut for contact adjustability
- 1/16" hex key for above
- (2) square section O-rings to install at both ends of the FM 3 X 17650 holder. Some versions can or must run off 6 X 123 cells loaded in the FM holder. These O-rings center the holder and prevent rattle when used with the thinner 123 cells.

MZOX-4 kit also includes aluminum Fraen reflector cosmetic trim ring and (3) #4-40 SS button head bolts for Ostar.

Sink kits are $125 plus shipping. I reserve the right to change the price for unseen costs, but unlikely.

Accessories:
- 19mm aspheric lens and holder, interchangeable with McR19XR, for use with MZXR-5, MZXR-7, and MZOX-4, $22 ea tentatively. See post #73 for more info.
- Adapter sleeve for use with Leef M tube, $10. Ano inside tube taper must also be removed.

Not included: host light, FM holder, cells, and reflectors. Reflectors available at time of sale including the cut McR27XR used in the MZP7-3 ($5 machining fee each). FM holders available here but going fast.

Built modules:
You get a completed module, just add light, holder if required, and cells. Delivery will obviously take longer than kits, and depend on the queue.

Mugshots:

Base prices subject to change, and adjusted per order based on build specifics such as LEDs used:
- MZOX-4, $385
- MZP7-3, $385
- MZXR-5, $375
- MZXR-7, $425
all plus shipping

Installation in your light is included, provided your light has the later aluminum bezels with 6 tooling notches. I don't have a tool for the earlier flush plastic bezels, but if there is enough demand I can have one made.

Payment:
No partial or prepay is necessary, full payment is due at time of shipping for kits and builds.

I'll take a fully built MZXR-7 $425...can you make that a max output only shark?
And a MZOX-4 sink kit with a full set of reflectors please.

If you have or will have a single speed driver for the MZOX-4, I'll take that too.

Lemme know what you can do. =o]

LED Zep,

If I'm interested in a built-module, do I have to send you my KT4 for retrofitting and have it shipped back once that's done? Or would you include a bezel opener for those who'd like to do the retrofitting themselves? Just exploring the options available, especially for an international like myself where shipping to and from CONUS is substantial.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Alan, you don't have to send me the head if you want to try it yourself.

I'd get a tool from RPM, his are great. Or I can order one in for you, I think they're $20, and send it along with the module.

I will include some machined wood blocks that fit the head and allow you to hold it securely in a vise.

But given the cost of the tool, it might be less hassle and cost to send me the head. But if you ever want to open up another one, you will have the tools if you go that route.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Hi Dennis

I got my sink today, very cool. Like I said before so much planning and a very neat professional product.
Now I have to decide of I want to use a cool white R2 for this or one of the JE6 warm white R2's I got yesterday.
I am usually a sucker for that long throw cool white.

Thanks

Dave

PS I did not get the ledil booms today so your fraens will go out Sat. early with a few booms.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Mine arrived today complete from the man himself. No beamshots unfortunately as the cells are in the Pila as I write this. From the first fire-up though it's definitely a flood monster. I don't have an open field to try the throw out, but it sufficiently lights up the full outside of the neighbor's house about 1/2 block away. Not quite as bright as I remember the EleII Quad P7 being, but that thing had an extra P7 so it's understandable. Personally, I much prefer the slender Leef tube over the stock M6 but I might get flamed a bit here for saying that. Anyway, here's a few lousy pics of how she looks (next to her is the milkyspit "T2" for size comparison). Thanks a million Dennis!!
