Hello New to this forum.
As the title states I would like to convert my SF E2D LED into a rail mounted weapon light.
http://www.surefire.com/E2DL
1. Does anyone know where I could get a tape switch for the SF "E" series

2. Also will a new tail switch disable dual output function (5 lumen to 125 lumen)?
3. Rail mount I found at SKDTAC.com

Anyone out there know where I could get the Tailcap switch besides surefire? @ $101 I'm 1/2 way to buying a complete unit off EBAY.

Need your input to find the most cost-effective solution.
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that a tape switch will not disable any modes on the light. As such, multi-mode lights are not ideal for use as a weapon light. I can see a scenario where you are using the light on an unfriendly person, your finger slips and the next thing you know you're on low mode and the person takes advantage of you being distracted by it.

Surefire makes an E series picatinny rail mount (M78) for the light which is in the ~$50 or less range. Any ~.800" diameter mount that is E-series compatible will work (1" mounts are too big, you will need to see if they have a spacer set if you go that route). Also check VLTOR (sp?)and tango down. If you want a high end mount (CNC, offset, single or double light compatible, quick-release, adjustable) then the Larue Tactical flashlight mounts are a good option.

Check the CPF marketplace here on this site for the tape switches, I recall seeing a couple available a week ago and you will find them to be priced reasonably. I believe it's the UE07 kit which includes the tailcap and 7" long tape switch/cable.

Your dual function option will be retained as that feature is built into the head of the light rather than the tailswitch (an example is the complete interchangability between the SF Backup and SF Scoutlight switches others on this forum have done)

Surefire also sells an SR07 tapeswitch which, I think that's the number. It mounts to a rail and has an option for constant on, but you still need the UE07 tailcap.

Alternatively, you might call or email Brightflashlights, their contact info is located in the AR15.com website Industry section. Calvin/Kevin may have individual Surefire parts available and can possibly get you exactly what you need without needlessly buying extra parts you may or may not use. He is also very knowledgeable on other manufacturer's options you can consider and has an excellent business reputation.
