WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democrats in Congress Wednesday accused US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) of being disingenuous in his avowed support of a ban on assault weapons, and called on the White House to use its influence to sway Republicans to hold a vote on the issue........
The New York senator alleged that the president has voiced support for the bill, knowing that Republicans who control the House of Representatives would never allow the measure to reach the floor -- thereby ensuring that it never reaches his desk for a signature.
"What's disconcerting here is the fundamental dishonesty," Schumer said.
"It is disgraceful for the president to get up and say he supports the assault weapon ban, and then have his aides whisper to the House, 'kill it in the dead of night'.
"It's not fair, it's not right, and we're urging the president to come clean."

President Bush is trying to abolish the assault ban for us. We need to kick Feinstein and her stinking Democrats and gun control lobby as far back as possible while Bush is still President. Keeping our gun rights is a never ending war against the DEMOCRATIC party and their stinking Californian liberal mindset and the only defense is a good offense.
The television news is doing all it can to put pressure on the president making it look like he'll lose everything if he fights the assault ban. The news on tv reported when President Bush went against the NRA because the television left wing shithead news media wanted us gun owners to turn on our only representative in government who will help us. If the news can make us hate President Bush then they can remove our value to the President in the elections and they can get Bush to turn against us. He is loyal to us because he needs our votes. Remember how close he came to losing to that left wing freak, Al GOre who wanted to ban the second amendment in totality. Bush needs our votes and he knows it. But if television can convince him that we will no longer support him then BUsh will turn against us.
