I went on vacation to the Big Island Hawaii.

I went for 5 nights.

I drove my rental car 861 miles.

These are some of my pictures.

Ernsanada, thanks for the memories. It's been sooo long since I've been to some of those places. What a contrast to the thread about wintry "snow and ice" pics.

It must have been really dry during your visit...Rainbow Falls is down to a trickle. Did you walk up the trail to the top of the falls (if it's still accessible)?

Only photo "missing," is Mauna Kea. Was there still snow on the mountain? The Big Island is a great place--only place in Hawaii where you can conceivably go skiing in the morning, and surfing in the afternoon.

Hmm, a view of 10+ politicians:rolleyes: lolling about the Waikoloa golf course... (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Actually it was raining but not that much by Rainbow Falls.

The only place I didn't go was Mauna Kea. I though you were able to drive by rental car but after reading the tour booklets it said that it was dirt road. There were tours but I didn't go.

There was snow up on Mauna Kea.

:thanks:

The temperature was 85 degrees F - 69 degrees F at night. On the slight humid side. I didn't bring any long legged pants just shorts and t-shirts. It was good to get away from the cold weather. It has been cold here in So. Cal.

Wow, I've been to most of those places; thanks for the great pics!

I seem to remember from someone there that of the 24 climate zones on earth, 20 are on Hawaii.

Looks like you had a great trip.
The Big Island is my favorite of all the islands.
Was the volcano erupting while you were there?
It's been going off often for decades and is a sight to see, especially by helicopter if your lucky enough to book a flight.
Some of the pilots do some pretty close passes.
If you ever plan to return, I highly recommend you stay at the Volcano House.
At night it looks as though your on another planet, especially if the sky is clear.
Don't take any of the rocks.
There are thousands of stories (no kidding) of tourists who took volcanic rocks home only to return them a short while later because of the string of bad luck that befalls them.
The park service receives them back by mail almost every day.
Oops almost forgot to mention, bring your collection of lights, great place for testing.

Did you do any diving while in Hawaii?
I to have heard some real horror stories about people taking rocks back home. In one bathroom reader I read this guy lost his wife and his business.
That is until he personally brought the rocks back and apologized to some goddess of sorts.

The only thing you could see was the lava flowing into the ocean.

The lava used to flow by close to this location where I took this picture but now the lava is flowing more west. There was another road that heads toward Kalapana but I didnt take that road. It was getting late and I was hungry. The park ranger said If I went that way you can walk close to the lava flow. The best time to go is when the sun sets.

The smoke you see is where the lava is flowing into the ocean.

I didn't do any diving.

I did not take any rocks. I heard about stories don't take the rocks or you will get bad luck. I saw on the Travel Channel that there are many tourists that take the rocks, start to get bad luck and send the rocks back.

I took only 2 lights. A Fenix E20 and Fenix L1D CE. I took these lights because they use common AA batteries. I had no problems with airport security. I had the lights in my carry on bag.

I only went for a day trip to the Big Island as part of a tour group. Judging from your pictures, I should have stayed longer! A few of my pictures are remarkably similar to yours. Thanks for bringing back these wonderful memories!
