MrBulk just got back from Vegas, apparently having enjoyed some of their delicious buffets available on the Strip.

Being possibly the only one from my family and circle of friends who has never been there yet, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif I was wondering if anyone who has been there or lives there could sort of write up a list of the different locations and pricing of "good" buffet places. Info might include what kinds of foods are served, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, etc.

I am being cajoled by my loved ones to "get off my ***" and go the Vegas and try it out. Can't do it right now (currently on TDI w/ 2 severely herniated disks in my lower back affecting my leg), but have it on my list of things to do at some point. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Notice I do not ask for "good" gambling places, as I fully expect to lose my shirt, pants, shoes, and everything else I own if I get into that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, although this trip is not in the "near" future, any information would be greatly appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've eaten at the Mirage, Ceasars Palace, Circus Circus, the Silverton. I've also heard The Rio has worlds longest buffet line.

I remember Ceasars had a pretty good dinner, but my favorite would have to be Silvertons breakfast buffet. They have a custom omelette bar, where you can tell the chef to add whatever you want to the omelette. A good value as well, I believe breakfast buffet was $8.

the buffets are exspensive, overpriced imo. the best of the bunch when i was there 3yrs ago was bally's.

i strongly suggest you rent a car so you can get off the strip to eat meals or you'll spend a fortune. room service is an alternative too, it was the cheapest meal we had.

you'll have a great time, vegas is aweseome.

I agree with Keith. No matter where you go, you'll find something reasonably priced and I don't think you can really say that any of them suck. I don't agree with tkl about getting off the strip. You want the Vegas experience? Well then stay on the strip or better still, go to the downtown area and just walk around the Fremont Street area. It's an old area without all of the glamour and glitz of the "new" strip but it's nice. The luxury places up on the strip have extravagant buffets that are good and the prices are comparable. If you've never been to Vegas, you have to experience it all. Don't sit in your room and eat alone... unless of course you stay at the Venetian. I never leave my room when I stay there... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whatever else you do when you go, budget $100 (two of us got out for $85 with 4 or 5 mixed drinks) and go to the Steakhouse on top of Binions Horseshoe on Fremont. It was heavenly!

OH, and Sasha... Fremont isn't glitzy??? When were you last there? At night in November of 2001 that place was jumpin! And the lightshow should dazzle anyone who likes light!

I can hardly wait to get back to Vegas!

Joe... actually, I was just in Vegas two weeks ago and stayed at the Lady Luck. And yes, I saw the Fremont Street Experience... for like the umteenth time. It's ok the first and second time you see it but after that, it's just one more tourist trap and pickpocket paradise. At least they had new ones this time so it wasn't so bad. My parents love it and have to see it every time we go there.

By glitzy, I am talking about the sheer luxury and posh and GLITZ of the new hotels on the strip... Paris, Venetian, Alladin, Bellagio... not to mention Ceasars, Mirage... forgive me if I've forgotten a few. I love the strip! I'm a high maintenance gal and staying downtown for $12.95 a night just really rubs me the wrong way. My parents love it so I stay with them there... but I get a king suite. Give me the luxury of The Venetian or Bellagio any day! I LIKE a marble bathtub and glass shower and gold gilded fixtures and fluffy towels... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif ... I am just not meant to be poor... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well ok. When I was there in 2001 for my first and only time so far, we stayed at the Westward Ho. My Dad gets comped there. It isn't the teeny-tinyest bit posh or glitzy, but has a bed and a shower. The casino is a cozy little thing however.

It's funny. I have heard of surveys that say people like the low ceiling smaller Casinos. I must liked to gamble in Westward Ho and Binions - both older smaller venues. I enjoyed just looking around in the bigger Casinos.

I haven't luxuriated in a bathtub in years. I wouldn't probably even notice gold fixtures. But fluffy towels ARE a must! I could do rich, but seem doomed to be if not poor then lower middle class. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

I don't know about you guys, but when I went to Vegas, "expensive" was purged from my vocabulary for the duration of that time. I don't think you'll experience Vegas to its intended, without sacraficing some burning plastic...

Heres my $.02:

Excalibur Roundtable Buffet: Sucks. Sorry to say, but only go if you get a special offer on it like FREE.

Best deal? Texas Station Feast.

It's been a few years, but when I went, I looked for the cheapest buffet and wound up at Circus Circus for dinner, which was like $3.99 or some very low price. It was very good and there was certainly plenty to eat.

There are definitely good deals to be had there. I've heard you can also get dirt-cheap flights and hotel rooms if you find a special. Just don't give it all back in the casinos or those bargains can become very expensive indeed (which is the whole idea of course).

When I went to Vegas, I visited about 15 casinos and a number of the buffets. By far the best that I had was at the Bellagio. They really were a lot better than all the others. Lunch buffet at the Mandalay Bay was quite good though.

I'll second the Bellagio as best, a little more expensive but worth it, my second would be at the Mirage. Best brunch buffet is at Bally's always has been and still is.

One of the coolest things we encountered foodwise was down on Fremont street. This was years ago so I don't know if it still exists but My wife and I were playing slots down at the Golden Nugget at around 11:30 pm one night and saw a line start to form in the lobby when we asked another couple what it was they told us it was a midnight "Early Bird Breakfast Buffet" with a sirloin steak cooked to order for something like $4.99, they told us it was the best steak meal in town cause the steaks were trucked in fresh every time and man they were not kidding, best steak I have ever eaten, granted it was midnight but man it was great.

The absolute best? That I've actually personally experienced?

It would have to the at the Ritz-Carlton out on Lake Las Vegas. Just the setting is incredible, an idyllic Tuscan view of scenic residences set up and into the stepped hillside, overlooking the lake. I thought I was in Italy.

Then a sumptuous walk-up-to-the-live-chef-at-each-station-who-then-serves-you-something-cooked-hot-off-his/her-grill kind of buffet, set up in the open area on an actual three-arched bridge, over which there are condos (all stacked onto this bridge).

The chefs were all "name" guys (although for the life of me I don't know any of'em), cooking up delightfully eclectic morsels such as scallops as big acrosss as the palm of your hand, sizzling in their own little pans in some kind of garlic butter sauté laced with (I think it was was) honey.

Anyway, that bridge sagged under the weight of what must have been several hundred fully stuffed participants yours truly included, and on the way out I noticed that the parking lot was lined with every variation of Lexus, Mercedes, Jag and BMW profile rides. Along with a Boxster or two.

I'll gladly go again -- maybe next year, when they have this Mothers Day luncheon special again...

But otherwise the Bellagio is a semi-close second, although unfortunately they only brought out the Really big Alaskan King Crab legs after I was already belching solids.
