Just picked up this Swirl Style Red Head beauty, Vintage 1941 usalite, Runs on 2D. The bulb is 2.5v 0.7A krypton bulb.
Thinking about modding it to get into the 200-300 lumen range, but has to be reversible mod.

The head is plastic, so is the lens. Would 6D Meg xenon bulb + 6xAA be too hot & melt the head/Lens?
Should I better cree Q5/R2 her? What would you do?

Hmmm, you could try a 2D drop-in, or maybe a 3.6v drop-in also and fit an 18650 with spacers...?
That would require minimal modding to the unit...

Thanks, The reflector is actually metal. But I do agree
not much extra heat can be handled, as the reflector
touches the plastic lens/lens cap.

There's some room around the neck of reflector that I can put in
some small heat sink material.

I have ordered a 1W led drop in PR Bulb., the Terralux TLE-1F.
I will report back if this will work out. Originally, I was going to
jam in a big heat sink with Cree R2, but then it'll require non reversible mod,
so that's out of the question. The current bulb is at 2.5V, 0.7A, about 2W,
I think it should be fine with the 1W led drop in.
