"Back On The Road 28364 aluminum flashlight". Does anyone know this flashlight?

Hello,

I was doing a search on Internet the other day, and when doing so I came across the same flashlight at several online novelty/gift shops.

Each of these shops seem to have this light listed as "Back On The Road 28364 heavy duty super-slim aluminum flashlight". It's black, has an adjustable focus and a lanyard, uses two AA batteries and is 7" long.

Does anyone know this flashlight? If so, who's the manufacturer? Just curious :)

I guess it was manufactured by Yunjia Precision in China. Please check http://www.yunjia.com/flashlight.htm

They are on sale in some stores in London, HEALS, for example. The lamp is a small part metal ( copper ?) encased, with a flange on the base - very difficult to find over here

Your Price: $3.71
UK Price: $21.00 ( approx )

I started writing a long rant about TAX & Duty in the UK.

I'm sure you all get an idea about how the UK population is being ripped off.

I won't trouble you with the details, but the SureFire E1 costs $105+ over here!

Why do people therefore avoid Her Majesty's Customs to bring things in, far cheaper from abroad?!

How many years in jail do you think you would spend if you were caught...say...running flashlights and batteries into England?

Do not tempt them!

I know someone that sneaked a LaserDisc Player and 50 discs into the country in his suitcases sometime ago now.

It really was cheaper for him to get a cheap flight, and bring it back then to buy them in the UK (I don't think that was all he bought back with him. Airfreighting some speakers of something...)

So flashlights is small fry, but HMG's got to cream off 25%.

Velcro / Alan and others, Sorry -
I had a closer look at the 2AA example I saw in HEALS, this particular one looks very similar, but doesn't seem focusable, unless by dangerously close to unscrewing the head, made in grey finished ?aluminium?, end-cap push switch with ARCO SYSTEMS on the head.

It certainly isn't near the mini-Mag in build quality

Did a search, but haven't found a link to it at all.

Lite-lover,

If you could show the picture, I might be able to tell who made it.

Well, I had another look at the catalogue in the link above. At that picture quality, the only difference, ( milling, lanyard and spare lamp carrier included ) is that the neck might be fractionally differently curved.
Difficult to tell them apart.
And as to finding another image to compare, HEALS, the Traditional English Expensive Interiors store isn't even on the net yet. And they don't sell the spare lamps.

The incandescent lamp type is a kind which I only have two of by chance, and have never seen on sale in the UK. They hadn't seen or heard of them in my fairly good local Elec/shop. ( AAAA's are also difficult to find over here. )
Not-too-technical description - the glass part is about 8.7mm high, clear, same shape as a LED, and sits inside a silver or copper coloured tube 4.6mm diam. with a 2.0mm thick x 6.0mm diam flange forming the base. Then a small circle of insulator below that, surrounding a domed pin. Total 16.0mm high.

Maybe these are common everywhere else, but I'm given to understand they are a Far Eastern standard.

Without the picture, I really couldn't tell. Anyway, I didn't know they made light for AAAA cell. Besides, replacement lamp module is also impossible to get. You can't replace the bulb itself, you have to replace the lamp module that was created by this manufacturer only.

Far Eastern standard? No kidding, you could hardly see this light in any shop.

Re: "Back On The Road 28364 aluminum flashlight". Does anyone know this flashlight?

Sorry Alan – I think we may be at cross-purposes.

Velcro asked about a particular flashlight in the first post in this topic.

I had seen the same or a very similar model in Heals, an expensive furniture shop in London, which strangely enough sells small, curious flashlights ( they actually do some in the shape of a small fish ) and " designer " gadgets.
I then went to check it out, and posted the small amount of info above as an answer.

About the lamp in that flashlight – I described it as clearly as I could because as far as I know it is very rare in the UK, and I don't know if it is in fact available or used anywhere else. Those details were intended as some info on the lamp, and also as a caution to anyone who buys the thing from wherever to check for spare lamp availability in their area.

Anyway, from what I've seen of it, it is really only of interest to collectors, not to applied flashlighters – the performance I saw is not remarkable.
Crazily, the shop which sells the flashlight does not sell the unusual lamps necessary for replacements. Can't figure that philosophy out.

Identifying this flashlight's manufacturer must be impossible or very difficult, without an ARCO SYSTEMS Internet link. Good of you to offer anyway.

The Far Eastern standard point – I was told that this type of lamp design is common in that region, so I meant a standard type of fitting / base there, but one not sold here in the UK. (Or in the States ? )

The only AAAA flashlight that I personally have heard of is the Streamlight Stylus, which is a fairly new model I believe. ( I want one soon ! Planning on a big bank-breaking order of a lot of the stuff I didn't even know I was missing out on until I found the Candle Power Forums )

Others will know if there are any more AAAA fueled flashlights. Are there any 1 AAAA ? !

What I was saying about the AAAA batteries was that my friendly local dealer hasn't yet heard of them so I will have to find some way of buying them over here to power my new Stylus.

Not sure what you mean about the replacement lamp module / bulb problem.

Whew,

I've found that the Energizer e2 Lithium and/or Titanium batteries very hard to get hold of in the UK.
I called Energizer, and they suggested John Lewis. Seeing as I'm a Partner, discounted batteries are a bonus. John Lewis have never heard of any of the batteries Energizer said I could buy from them...

As for AAAA - I think this'll have to be a specialist battery company.
Or RS or Maplin may stock them...

Also, the price for e2 batteries over here is crazy (much like everything else)

What is the benifit of Titanium over Lithium AAs?

I know that RadioShack sells AAAA's, but I don't think that there is a RadioShack in UK.

Lite-Lover,

Oops... I thought you saw one of those Yunjia products in HEALS and wanted to be confirmed if they're the same.

When you mentioned AAAA in the same message, I thought you're referring to the same product we were talking and didn't realize that you're referring to Stylus.

Again, the lamp module was referred to those Yunjia light. Never mind, it's my fault not having read your post carefully
