July 8 updated: 4th batch ready to ship now. Please continue at: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/236172

For sale: custom made forward-clicky switch for Surefire 6P/G2 and similar.

I didn't have many SF tailcap to test. My friend told me it fits P/G/C/Z tailcap and L5/L6/M2/M3/M4. The clicky feel is similar to SF clicky. Switch is rated 3A max, please make sure your application won't exceed the limit. Switch manufacturer said over-current for extended period will cause the internal spring to deform and damaged the switch permanently.

==============================================
Here's the install instruction:
SFSW-Install-01.jpg

1. Prepare your tailcap (G2 for example) and the switch
2. Pull out the spring first.
3. Use plier to pull out the core.
4. Use plier or tweezer to unscrew the retaining ring. (some tailcap is glued). Take out the retaining ring and original rubber cap.
5. Put the new rubber cap in the tailcap
6. Use needle point piler or tweezer to screw tight the retaining ring.

If it's hex screw (not rivet) in your tailcap. You could use a plier(or extension tube) to hold the core and unscrew it with a hex wrench. The thread is seperate in two sections. Install the new switch and screw the retaining ring further, it'll still works.
SFSW-tailcap02.jpg

If your tailcap is old type with large rubber cap. The switch won't work!

Here's some photos of tailcap tested okay by my friend:

Manufacturer told me the switch is rated 3A. I'm not sure if it's high enough? :D

I only use stock P60 lamp and some LED drop-ins. I didn't push it to limit yet.

Thanks.

Re: FS: custom made forward-clicky for $urefire 6P/G2

Nice way to convert a twisty switch to a clicky type.
I may be interested, but have some questions though:

a. Does the switch retain lockout capability?

b. How is the performance of this switch assy compared to the stock twisty form esp. in incandescent setups?

c. How come the maximum current rating allowed is only 3A, same as Leef clicky? (5-6A would be nice and could drive hi-amperage incandescents w/o spring damage)

d. Does the contact spring maintain the same height as before? (I fear if the switch assy is screwed in too deep there may be contact problems with the batteries)

e. In terns of build quality and reliability, how does this switch assy compare to the AW soft-start switch module?

f. Is it necessary to swap the switch boot to the new one? Can the old one be used instead, and if no, why?

Re: FS: custom made forward-clicky for $urefire 6P/G2

Hi,

Nice way to convert a twisty switch to a clicky type.
I may be interested, but have some questions though:

a. Does the switch retain lockout capability?
Yes. Just loose half turn and it could be locked out.

b. How is the performance of this switch assy compared to the stock twisty form esp. in incandescent setups?
I think this switch is easier to operate (compared to twisty). The clicky feeling is smooth, solid and not loose. My friend said it's similar to SF stock clicky.

c. How come the maximum current rating allowed is only 3A, same as Leef clicky? (5-6A would be nice and could drive hi-amperage incandescents w/o spring damage)
It's the most suitable I could find in this size. I think there should be other hi-amp switches but I didn't get them. IMO, For larger amp rating, I think electrical switch like FET switch is more suitable. Mechanical switch may worn out by ON/OFF spike caused from large current in the long run.

d. Does the contact spring maintain the same height as before? (I fear if the switch assy is screwed in too deep there may be contact problems with the batteries)
I used it in my G2 for weeks and didn't encounter this problem. I also didn't hear it from my friends using it. I think if you didn't push it to limit, it should be fine.

e. In terns of build quality and reliability, how does this switch assy compare to the AW soft-start switch module?
No doubt, AW soft-start switch is top-notch. This switch also has resonable quality. The goal isn't the same, AW switch is electrical switch and this one is mechanical. AW switch is with mulit-mode and softstart. It's good for incan usage. (especially Hi-amp application. :D) This switch is for common incan and LED applications.

f. Is it necessary to swap the switch boot to the new one? Can the old one be used instead, and if no, why?
The switch button is longer. You could still use stock rubber cap, but it'll slightly protrude and may be easier to be mis-pressed.

Thanks.
