Can anyone tell me why the LED conversion heads alone are more expensive than the original lights themselves were?

My E2e was around $70 several years ago. One of the conversion heads offered for it is $109.00.

Even with the price increases you can still find complete Surefire LED E2L's for less than the $109 conversion head. For that matter, you can get the conversion heads cheaper than that too. See the marketplace for sales and deals.

Well, with the LEDs, the "head" is the flashlight, and is the part that all the cost (including lifetime replacement for original owner) goes into. Hence, the heads cost $109, but the light cost $120. SF knows they will probably never have to replace a body, just a clip or the occasional tailcap.
