18650 to D M*g Adaptors:

So I've made a few of these adaptors for my own personal maglites, and decided to offer them for sale on CPF.

I sold some of these before using a totally different design, see my old sales thread.

They are fairly simple, made out of PVC pipe and have a copper disc cut out from copper sheeting. I then scratch up the copper near where I'm going to glue it, so it bonds better. I use two part epoxy to join the copper to the PVC. Then I just spray paint them black.

Let me know if you have any suggestions, or would like to see other sizes etc.

I have 4 sizes avilable.

-1D to 1x18650 (Great for LED mods)
-2D to 2x18650 (Great for ROP's / LED mods. Depending on the size of your 18650's you might want to trim the tail spring a bit, or use a shorty.)
-3D to 3x18650 (Great for 9.6v bulbs like the Mag85. Requires you to remove the tail spring and de-anodize a small part on the tail cap)
-5D to 4x18650 (Great for any 12v hotwires in the 10-50W range)

Hi,I have a question.How does the 3D adapter useing 3 18650 batteries give you 9.6 volts for the mag 85?I thought that a 18650 battery is at least 4.2 volts(maybe higher).Please let me know,Thanks.

I think what he is saying is a WA 1185 bulb is a 9.6 volt bulb. The bulb is actual being over driven to about 11.1 volts (3.7v per cell) for most of the cycle . 4.2v is usually the max charge on a li-ion cell and the over voltage only lasts for the first part of the cycle then drops fairly quickly to around 3.7 volts per cell.

Nice adaptors Jason. Could you post the overall length of these tubes, please? With batteries installed?

I'll do that when I get home. The way they are made, they only extend the length of the 18650's by about 1-2mm. Other than that, the height of each tube is slightly shorter than a non-protected 18650 cell. I did it this way, so the last cell will stick out a bit to make good contact with the + spring in the mag.

1D = 2.4"
2D = 4.7"
3D = 7.1"
5D = 11.5"

That's the length of the tubes. With Sony unprotected cells the lengths are:

1D = 2.6"
2D = 5.1"
3D = 7.9"
5D = 12.1"

Actual length will vary a couple mm here and there because there are so many slight variations of 18650 cells.

Further questions are welcomed. :) Orders are also welcomed! :twothumbs
