Super simple upgrade for old-style Dorcy 1xAAA

Hey peoples,

I just bought some 14,000 mcd LED's from KD. I'm hoping they will be brighter than the original LED. (I couldn't find any mcd equivalent for the old Dorcys.)
I intend to replace one of my lowest-intensity(quite pathetic) Dorcy's with this led to try my hand at beginning to mod - as well as practice to use my Cold-Heat soldering 'iron'. This Dorcy is also missing its tailcap, so if I royally screw up - there's no harm.

So before I start, will the 14,000 mcd LED's be much brighter than stock? Is there some other simple upgrade I'm missing here?
(I keep reading about SMJ-leds, but I haven't been able to find them..)

I can't provide you info about the 14,000mcd leds, but I can tell you where to get the SMJs.
