Tiniest of tinies...

Hey guys,

now that i've setup my wife with Fenix L0D and me with generic DX AAA R2 as keychain lights, I want something even smaller. Today I was walking around in dark rooms, and thought to myself - what other thing I have with myself even more often than my keys? And the answer was - cellphone. So I thought, what if I could hang a tiny light on it? Something like CR2.. or even some button cells.. I guess it wouldnt be possible to power any modern leds this way, but if I could get enough light to navigate in a dark room, it would be amazing!

Do you guys have any idea of such light?

Thanks! :)

I'm a major noob here, but you might search for La Petite Killer.

Re: Tiniest of tiny's..

Lummi Wee is a great solution. It's about half the size of your pinky finger. They sell it with a little lanyard and clasp that you could probably rig to your phone. They offer a variety of lumen values, and warm white emitters to boot. You'd have to get a separate charger for the little liion battery it uses, but that's not a deal breaker for most people. There are other high-end lights in this area. Costly though...

Or you could go the Streamlight Nano direction, and get a really inexpensive but fairly useable light.. Though you'll have to deal with buttoncell batteries, which you seem to be open to.. Might be the best option because of how inexpensive it is, just to experiment with.

There are other options that I can't think of right now, but this should get you going for a little bit..

Photon Freedoms are really nice lights. Nothing fancy or unique, but not expensive either. The ramping is very useful. I recently have been using one with an orange LED for prowling the house and it does the job well. Got that color since it uses CR2032 batteries, which I have a bunch of, and it's a bit brighter that red. Glad I did.

Get a lighthound .99 light, or a fauzton, and stick it to the back of your phone. Cheap and easy, and surprisingly bright.

Re: Tiniest of tiny's..

Some cell phones come with a flashlight built in.

also: If your phone uses a white led as a camera flash there are apps for constant on.

Isn't the Drake the tiny one?

Yes indeed.

And this is my favorite topic in the universe!

Can I point you over here for a DEEP and detailed discussion of the tiniest lights with measurements and photos?

Comparison chart:
...............Length..........Diameter........... ........Volume:
Firefli........38mm............7mm................ ......1462mm^3
Eddie........50mm............10mm................. ....3926mm^3
Wee..........34mm............15mm................. ....6007mm^3
Nano.........37mm............13mm................. ....4910mm^3
LaPetit.......23.25mm.......14.25mm............... ..3681mm^3
Mako.........68mm............13mm................. .....9024mm^3
KD............42mm.............10mm............... ......3299mm^3
AUNOC.....67mm............9.5mm................... .4751mm^3

Re: Tiniest of tiny's..

I bought a couple cool little button cell flat lights that were made to stick onto a cell phone with diuble stick tape. When installed the almost look like they came with the phone. Not real bright but bright enough in a dark room to navigate.

Re: Tiniest of tiny's..

How about the Aeon?! :tinfoil:

The Aeon is awesome but is significantly larger than many of the tiniest lights we're comparing here...

Here's how the Aeon would fit into our chart (from low vol to highest vol):
...............Length..........Diameter........... ........Volume:
Firefli........38mm............7mm................ ......1462mm^3
KD............42mm.............10mm............... ......3299mm^3
LaPetit.......23.25mm.......14.25mm............... ..3681mm^3
Eddie........50mm............10mm................. ....3926mm^3
AUNOC.....67mm............9.5mm....................4751mm^3
Nano.........37mm............13mm................. ....4910mm^3
Wee..........34mm............15mm................. ....6007mm^3
Mako.........68mm............13mm................. .....9024mm^3
LD01..........73.5mm...........14mm.......................11,314 mm^3
Aeon.........53.3mm..........17.7mm...................13,108 mm^3

Wow! Because it is almost as wide as a NiteCore D10, this really gives it a high volume.

But in real life I'd say it carries even better than the Fenix LD01 which (as shown above) actually has a lower volume. The reason I used the volumen in this calculation was because my main need is a necklace carry/pendant light. For this purpose the FireFli crushes all.

I would (and did) go with the Lummi Wee, because it's very bright for its size. Mine is 50 lumens, but you can get one with 100 lumens if you want.

It would be a good idea to put a code tag around your table, it makes it possible to align the columns. To edit it: copy it to notepad and use a fixed with font.

Why do you like the firefly? Do you want the light with the smallest diameter or just the smalles light?
