Current vs Output with Cree R2s

I am trying to decide whether to power my Cree R2-WG LEDs using AMC7135 units at 1050mA or 1400mA.

While my first response is "more is better", I have to question whether it's worth it. 1050mA would yield a roughly 30% extra runtime, and I suspect once you get up that high, overdriving the LEDs an extra 350mA does not yield a noticeable amount of extra output.

Can anyone shed some light on this so I can make a more enlightened decision?

Just because you use a 1400mA driver dont mean the R2 will draw 1400mA .
It just means the ability is there .

My R2's are drawing from 700mA to as high as 1.2A ...

Im going to play with drivers to see what happens , but it all depends on the driver Cree combo , I got some rated to 3Amp but I havent seen more than 1.5Amp from it with a MC=E ..

Go ahead , so you reduce the 50,000 hour life to 5000 hours , so you blow a $7USD Cree R2 ... Knowledge is priceless ..
