i believe someone asked for a size comparison to a maglite and another tk model. i have the T1; don't have any other TKs...

...i hope this helps. sorry if some of these pictures are a little blurry. i took these with my phone (samsung memoir 8 megapixel camera phone). sometimes it takes good pictures, sometimes they're blurry...

wooohooo!

It seems very bright, the strobe on high is evil. The beam looks smooth at a quick glance on the wall to me. It looks nicer in person than in the pics to me...the head doesnt look as awkward. Will have to wait for dark to get a full impression of the power.

I would say the case if frequently used might last 6 months, before the hinges wear out and break. I would say medium durability.
More pics.

...if this works, i'll put the rest up...

I have not seen a picture of the battery housing for the TK40 so here it is. It is very well made.

Size comparison with Solarforce L950M and glass of beer :D
Output is very impressive, throw and overall output seems similar to L950M, which is rated at "950" lumens.

And one very important thing - no donut hole or cross in the hotspot!
tk40l950m.jpg

Thought I'd add in a couple of photos of more size comparisons.

Going left to right: Fenix LD10, 2xAA minimag, Fenix TK40, 2xD Maglite

P1000749.jpg

Same again but looking head on, the TK40 is probably about 2mm bigger in diameter than the 2xD Mag.

It's still afternoon here so I don't know yet the real power of my brand new light

Looking forward to tonight.

*ripped off from another thread...thought it was a great comparison shot though :)
Nice idea Beacon. :twothumbs

And for a size comparison here's most of them:

BEAMSHOTS

Beamshots

Picture does no justice.

...still light out; basement beamshots:

this is the fenix T1

and the fenix TK40
tk40beamshotbasement.jpg

...these beam shots are most likely not the best, but i don't have a great camera and are not the best photographer. thought i'd do what i could for everyone.

we had some people over last night and we were all hanging around our fire pit. i was showing everyone the tk40. EVERYONE was impressed. i kept hearing "i want that flashlight".

it's pretty much like a maglite D cell style light, but smaller, WAY brighter, and WAY more options. the throw distance is super far (that's a technical term, right?). also, if you need batteries in an emergency, AAs are everywhere; you might not be at home with your stockpile when you're looking for batteries - just my thoughts.

if one of your headlights on your car goes out, you could break out the glass and shove this thing in there. might want to put it on high and not turbo though. don't want it to outshine the real headlight too much.

Just to make this page a little bit more picture heavy, here are some more beamshots. Taken from a mobile phone unfortunately. Will borrow a camera on the weekend but just got the thing today and I'm so impressed.

The shot is of the top of a tree that is around 80 metres away at around 35-40 degrees. I think that works out to be around 100 metres (109 yards).

The first picture is of my LedLenser P7 on turbo. The lens is focused and theres no spill at all.

07042009062.jpg

I had to forgo the TK20, couldnt get anything at all from the phone camera. So here is the olight T25. You can get a bit of spill from it.

07042009064.jpg

Next is the TK40 on high and turbo respectively. The pictures dont do it justice.

07042009066.jpg

Hopefully I can get a better camera on the weekend. One caveat about the distances, they are just an estimate. It may not be 80 metres to the base of the tree. Did most of it by eye. It might be only 60 metres and the tree is uphill, so possibly around 70 metres I'll get the cycle computer out too on the weekend.

Also did a ceiling bounce test, and at 1 metre it was 2200 lux. I think the last time I did this with the L2D, I was getting around 60 lux so woof!

Fenix TK40, RaidFire Spear, Fenix TK11 R2, Fenix PD30

Fenix PD30:

M6 vs. TK40

Exposure is fixed in all of these but white balance is not.

Here is a Surefire M6 HOLA with CR123. The bulb and batteries probably have about 6 or 7 minutes on them. The target is about 50 yards away.

1M6HOLA.jpg

Here is the Fenix TK40 with Eneloops with about 10 minutes of run time on them at various levels. It is on Turbo.

1TK40Turbo.jpg

For a comparison here is a Mag 4D with an older P4 Malkoff drop-in, stock reflector and Duracells that have probably been sitting in the van door for six months. Probably not the best case scenario for the Mag drop-in in but I doubt new cells would help it that much compared to the M6 and TK40.

1MagMalkoffDrop-in.jpg

Here is a Surefire C2 with M60 drop-in running on RCR123 cells.

1C2wM60CR123.jpg

I moved my target to a tree down a valley that was probably 100 yards+ in distance. Here's a long exposure to give you an idea of the target:

IMG_2871.jpg

First up is the Surefire C2+M60. Without the throw, all you get is some spill on the foreground.

2C2M60.jpg

Now the Mag P4 Malkoff drop in. The throw is slightly better than the M60 but not really enough light to put a dent in this exposure.

2MAGMalkoffDropin.jpg

Here is the M6:
2M6HOLA.jpg

Finally the TK40:
2TK40.jpg

Overall, I'd say the M6 is slightly better than the TK40. It certainly is on color rendition. Note, I did not lock the white balance but I think most would agree the full range incandescent still has some advantage in color. The Fenix TK40 does quite well though and I'm very happy with the throw and output. The size also makes it holster compatible with most M6 holsters too.

What I'd really like to see is an Surefire M6 vs. Fenix TK40 vs. Legion II vs EagleTac M2CX but I don't have those two lights.

Here's my first attempt at posting beamshots, please be kind ;) I'll be comparing three torches, Fenix LD10, Kingpower K2 & the Fenix TK40 all run at max power.

My camera is a point-and-shoot type (panasonic dmc-tz15), which turns out to be hopeless at taking night shots at range, however the 'night scenery' mode did take photos that were fairly close to how it looked in real life of some beamshots at 10 metres (~33 feet).

Firstly, daytime shot for comparison. It is 10 metres to the wooden fence.

P1000756.jpg

And now, night shot with no lighting also for comparison.

P1000757.jpg

Fenix LD10 turbo mode (120 lumen)

P1000758.jpg

Kingpower K2 high mode (180 lumen)

P1000759.jpg

And finally Fenix TK40 turbo mode (630 lumen)

P1000760.jpg

I was did try taking beamshots at at longer ranges, but the photos didn't turn out so well...

This tree is at the back of my garden and it is 40 m away. I have compared a TK10 and the TK40 both on turbo:

2vw7i3k.jpg

I was hoping to say that the TK40 (just received) would live up to my hopes...afterall I sold a 35w hid to fund it... but actually, it has surpassed them. My favorite light (ever) was my old UK lightcannon100 10w hid. It had a nice spot and 450 lumens of output in a small package. I always wanted a M6, but 6x123a's with 20 minutes of burn was just something I could not convince myself to buy. (I did buy a m3 and m4 though)

This light finally has given me everything I have been looking for. A Wide spill with a medium sized spot. Rechargable...and yet can run on primaries...plus multiple levels. The beam is (I believe) even brighter than my old lightcannon's...but I can also use it on medium and high. High easilly outshines my Olight M20's highest setting...with turbo a push of a button away if you need it.

Everyone else has been nice enough to add a few beamshots...which is why I bought my TK40, so I thought I would add a few...forgive me that my broken tripod has not been replaced so shots are handheld with the self timer at 1 sec at f/2.8 iso64 wb at daylight.

First, the TK40 on high..about 17 yards to target bush
3431071734_270614873e.jpg

Next is the Olight M20 R2 on highest setting using 2x123a's
3431071460_717d334397.jpg

Last, the Fenix TK40 on Turbo...8xaa enerloops
3431072046_e2c80da0e6.jpg

Not perfect, but you get the general idea....Great Light!

Runtime
Runtime with eight conrad 2500mAh batteries. I usually test with sanyo 2700mAh cells, but have only four pieces. Runtime with them should be even longer. I would expect 90-100 minutes of flat regulation with Eneloops.

Accessories
I am thinking about EDC this in place of my Fenix TK1, if I can get used to the size. Today at Lowes I came upon a flashlight carrier from nightize which I liked. I bought it for about 8 bucks and have tried to attach a picture of it (my first attemp at a photo). Does anyone have any experience with this holster? How will you carry your TK40?
Thanks

Above Post, if anyone wants to clean up the html :)

According to the manual, lockout is recommended due to the parasitic drain but to be fair I've never really get around to prove the drain but the sensitive clicky is quite a pain & 3 full turn for a lockout is pretty inconvenient.

For sharing, I'm using the same Tatanka len pouch $10 (pix shown with my Porky L6-M6 setup)

Hope this was helpful.
I'm still debating on it (pending funds )

I'll most likely only update it with additional mini-reviews as more people get it. I think the above gets the gist however

so I (slightly/very impulsively) just bought this thing from campsmarter.com (best/excellent price).

Guess I'll be putting my own thoughts up at some point (just as soon as I get some batteries, doh!)

Does anyone know if TK40 can fit in the D Cell Mag-Lite Basketweave Belt Holder (50-51mm?) ?
