The head will fit the body, but you'll have to bore out the body to fit a 17670.

Or you might get lucky and the tube will take one.

I have 2 stock E series tubes that will take 17670. Sometimes you get lucky but don't count on it!

So the Extreme head can be safely run off a 17670? Is it any dimmer/brighter? Any idea on the runtime?

Read its official specs. The extreme was designed to run safely either on CR123 primaries or RCR123 Li-ion. It's going to be as bright as on a single RCR123 (200 lumens according to Nitecore) but with 2 to 3 times longer runtime.

Here's a couple of NEX heads on Surefire E-series bodies (top two lights). One is an E1e-BK body and the other is a stock older E2e-BK body with flat sides that is big enough for 17670s

I had tried my AW 17670 with three round E2DL bodies (like the one linked by the OP) with no success. It's good to hear some of them are big enough to fit 17670s. :sigh:
