Can the later(non-finned) Surefire KL3 be modded with one of the higher power emitters and still use the stock optic to make a long throwing beam? Would an Osram Diamond Dragon work here?

I am looking for some kind of very long throwing, LED option for a SF 6P size light that doesn't involve going to very large head/bezel and thought this might be the answer.

I have a KL3 that I modded with a Seoul P4 and then K2TFFC while keeping the stock optic.

Either way, swapping the LED will produce a large increase in brightness. The Seoul P4 put out ~14,000 lux@1 meter. The K2TFFC put out ~19,000 lux@1 meter. This is with direct drive off 1x17670.

With the Seoul P4, the beam went circular, whereas the K2TFFC made the beam squarish.

Dutchguy2, that is a nice mod!

Anybody else have modded KL3s?

Mine isn't a thrower but it has decent range.

The KL3 had its C-body adapter removed and low and behold its M-body threads. Free M-C Adapter, just break the seal without breaking the HA.
Now it has a BigLeef M-Series Adapter
