P60 host for single 26650 cell - 6P size

Anyone know of a source for a P60 host that takes a single 26650 cell that is about the same size as a 6P?

Just a suggestion, you might want to re-post this in your 6P/2xC thread & change it's title to 6P / C cells or something. You'd collect more useful info in a single thread.

If you can find a tail cap, Lighthound still has a few BigLeef 26650 body and C-series head adapters.

Thanks for the info on the BigLeef's. They look like they are a custom/limited product. Are there any manufacturers of production units?

I have been playing around with the concept of the P60 host that will take a single 26650 cell (or a 26500 with a 15mm. spacer). You could also use a 18650 (or 2x CR123) with a spacer tube. Here is what it would look like compared to a 6P:

sweeetness!! If you bring these to the marketplace I'd get one for sure at that price. Can I suggest, maybe adding some ring-shaped heatsink fins up towards the LED end of the body and lower portion of the bezel? High current P7, MC-E and XR-E modules suffer greatly form thermal dimming within minutes of power up.

Looks good though!!

There is not room enough for fins on the body as its diameter is just 30mm. (to fit weapon mounts). Also, the flats on the lower part of the bezel/head are for anti-roll. I can put several deep (4.5mm., 0.18in.) fins as shown below which will provide substantially increased heat dissipating surface.

There is not room enough for fins on the body as its diameter is just 30mm. (to fit weapon mounts). Also, the flats on the lower part of the bezel/head are for anti-roll. I can put several deep (4.5mm., 0.18in.) fins as shown below which will provide substantially increased heat dissipating surface.

With the new 2600mAH AW 18650 cells available now, why would you want a host for a 2300mAH AW 26500 cell? Unless you are going to run a high amp bulb. Is that 26650 battery from batteryspace.com really 4000mAH?

With that being said, I wouldn't mind a cheap HA 26500 cell host. I already have a few of the 26500 cells that I don't currently use for anything.

With that being said, I wouldn't mind a cheap HA 26500 cell host. I already have a few of the 26500 cells that I don't currently use for anything.

Some might find the shorter 26500 length easier to belt/pocket carry. Its no more difficult to turn on an NC lathe, and uses less material than the longer 650 length.

interested in this project... since I am working on higher current MC-E modules, that need as much thermal heat sinking as well as current capacity/headroom as possible.

Note that in the second picture, the one in the middle (130mm., 5.12in. long - shorter than a 6P) is for a single 26650 - it has the fins added as suggested by kramer5150. The one on top (164mm., 6.45in. long) is for 2x 26500 (or a single 26650 with spacer) for higher voltage/current applications. It can also be a 2C light (alkaline or NiMH) for use with M30's etc.

My recollection is that although common sense would suggest that finns aid in cooling, actually they make the light hotter because they remove metal that would otherwise absorb heat.

Ooh thats a good point. rmteo, my heatsink addition idea was just a suggestion... perhaps something for you to consider. At any rate, I like the design with or without the little fins.:twothumbs

I have my paypal finger ready if you ever due make these hosts. A 2 cell version w/ a P91 from Surefire would light up 400 plus lumens for a very long time. Now, I hope those KD C cells Li-ons can keep up with the 2.6A+ current of the P91.:whistle:

It certain static applications the loss of mass might be detrimental, however, in this case the fins would actually increase surface area which would aid in heat dissipation.

I would be very interested in both designs, as in :paypal:interested.
I'm very anxious to try out some of the 26650's. Even if they turn out to be less than 4000mAh, maybe 3500mAh-3700mAh, they will still be a tremendously desirable form factor.

It is a series circuit the current is the same for every component in the circuit so the current is 2.6A. If the batteries were in parallel then the current drawn from each battery would be 1.3A

Nope, because they would be in series they each get hit with 2.6A. If they were wired in parrallel like my M6 2s3P holders then yes the current is shared only among the parallel. :faint:

If it was an LED fully regulated like the Malkoff MC-E P60 as you increase the voltage ( add cells) the runtime increases because the current drops. The overall watts of power remain the same from 6v~13v. Which makes this Malkoff MC-E drop-in such a great value and if this hosts gets made please add extentions so we can go from 1 cell to 3 cells w/out having to purchase more hosts.

I am not a big fan of using extensions as they compromise the structural integrity of the body. I much prefer the concept of offering different body/tube lengths such as 1x (26500 or 1C), 1.3x (26650), 2x and 3x. From a manufacturing standpoint there is very little difference in cost to produce the bodies - mainly additional material (in the order of pennies) and machine time (about 5-10%).
