Here's another project for my number one CPF buddy. He asked that I show enough detail on what was invloved in modding these so the owners can see. So this post will have a lot more pictures than usual from me although I forgot to take pictures of some the steps. :ohgeez:

I was never a fan of these particular lights but after modding these I really like them now. Hope the owners enjoy!

-Mr Bulk Lion Cub
-SSC P7 DSWOI
-TaskLED Lion Cub/Lion Heart driver
-Aluminum heatsink
-Modified & sputtered McR-20
-Extra knurled head with heavier sputtering on the McR-20
-Glow orings in both heads
-2.7A with IMR16340

Here are pics of before the mod. It had already been upgraded with a Cree XR-E & had nice output.

These lights aren't grounded very well. The Lion Cub just relies on the negative lead of the LED touching the body for ground connection. The Chameleon driver pictured below just has a wire soldered to the driver that is bent flat that wedges between the driver & the body for ground connection. This Chameleon had flickering issues. I threaded a hole to use a screw for ground connection & epoxied it so it wouldn't come loose.

Every P7 I have used does not have a flat base, it's always concave. I sand the P7 flat & apply the thinest layer of epoxy I can to isolate it. See the silver in the middle? This pic was taken after I layed the thin layer of epoxy (yes it is there).

Custom made tool used to center the P7 (thanks to Anglepoise for the great idea!)

Sorry no beamshots, they are on the way back to their homes.

Great work. I like the idea of securing the ground with a screw. An important improvement.

I love Georges drivers with the side switch.

What's driver you used for the P7?

Looking at the photos I see some pictures of LionCub boards and one Chameleon board. They are the standard Mr. Bulk LionCub and Chameleon boards Made by TaskLED. The LionCub boards are unregulated and the Chameleon boards are regulated.

Taskled D2DIM,

Its the original LionCub Driver or the Lionheart V2 if you will.

The Driver is Direct Drive so the led is seeing about 2.8A on a fresh battery.
Plenty bright i would think :D

The Chameleon driver is not suited for this mod as it is current regulated and will provide to little juice.
Just as good as the D2DIM is my favorite board of all time, the smooth dimming is just Perfect.

Pretty cool infact as this driver was lightyears ahead of the Surefire TITAN and the not so functional Gatlights with Continous dimming.
By not so functional i mean that the Gatlight were flakey/unconsistant when twisting the nob and would not give dimming at the full spectre.
The D2DIM UI is very precise and it is a shame it is out of production and not used in the later Regulated Drivers from Taskled.

enough mumbeling from me..

Only diffrence is that Will put stickers on it.

Very very nice mod and host for one of darkzero's great P7 mods. :twothumbs DZ does incredible work - I'm still totally jazzed about the one I got from him. I haven't had any lights this exciting in a long time! I'm sure they'll love them.

Just seeing this thread for the first time and gotta say that I'm constantly amazed by your work Will. And Benny, WOW, those sure look sharp. Before reading the OP I've gotta say that I agreed with darkzero on not caring too much for the Mr.Bulk lights. But this thread has definitely changed my mind. London Lad's Ti Cub II in B/S/T sure is tempting right about now. I know it's a bit cliche to say but it's absolutely true: "Once you go custom, just about everything else seems not quite up to par." This community is full of very talented and genuine people.
