mmajunkie,

Thanks for posting the beam shots! Those of us who haven't received our M30 yet (tomorrow for me) have been waiting for someone to show us the light! ;)

Thanks for those beamshots mmajunkie. It's more of a thrower than I was expecting. Good spill too.

I'll throw in my 2 shots too. Not the best, but here you go:

Distance about 150 ft.

Husky 2D Cree:

M30 Triton:

It really does have a nice combination of both throw and spill.

@mmjunkie, Sorry, but this pictures are worthless, because different exposure times and aperture settings. You should fix this settings on your camera (ISO also and looked white balance!)

Use manual settings also.

I thought I did use manual, the pic look just like it did when I took them.

I shot them in Raw and did nothing to them. I used a remote also.

So what did I do wrong?

You know....on my camera, I use the 'M' setting, so that my F stop and exposure setting remains constant unless I manually change them. Yours was fluctuating a bit due to the difference in light output. They automatically compensated for the difference.

That is why in the first 2 pictures, you can see a difference in brightness in the stationary lighting by the building. The one with the M30 looks brighter.

That is one thing I check for when doing comparison pictures...is, "Is all the ambient light the same brightness?" If it is, then you know you have a true comparison in the flashlights brightness.

Well spotted, I just assumed the settings would be the same. mmajunkie, you need to use the same aperture, shutter speed and ISO when comparing between the two. On M mode, aperture and shutter speed won't change unless you change them. Also make sure auto ISO is off (if that applies to your camera in M mode).

I was wondering why the M20 shots looked so weak; it's because they have less exposure.

That might be the ticket right there.

Good photos mmajunkie.....we definately want more from this M30!! Do you have any other high output lights you can compre it to?

Yep...looks like these settings were different. And it wasn't anything you physically did.....I think that it was some automatic setting in your camera that fluctuated once it detected the brighter light of the M30...and the different background from set to set.
