Can someone confirm this? If whats written below is true, the USD$170 is worth every single penny.

The trend of developing flashlights that require very little battery power, but in the same time generate quite a high amount of light has become pretty much the standard among the most important manufacturers of such products on the market.

However, the people over at 5.11 Tactical Series have really upped the ante with their UC3.400 model, a device that, according to the manufacturers, will require very little power in order to operate and will support daily recharges for up to 135 years, without losing any of the energy-storage capacity.

What makes the UC3.400 so special is the complete lack of batteries, the devices using instead a sophisticated energy management system called FlashPoint Power Technology. This technology is based on ultracapacitors that work together with computer circuitry to efficiently manage how energy is loaded into the flashlight and then how the respective energy is consumed.

The practical results are indeed noteworthy, since the recharge process takes very little time (roughly around 90 seconds), while the device is capable to deliver up to 23.5 hours of total runtime (98% uptime) in a 24-hour period.

Now, let's see what's the deal with those 135 years. The UC3.400 supports up to 50,000 charge/discharge cycles with virtually no degradation and no memory, which translates into up to 135 years, one charge per day.

The light system comprises three LEDs, which generate 270 lumens in bright mode and 90 lumens in standard mode. Moreover, it's also important to mention that the device also packs a 270-lumen tactical strobe, while the three LED bulbs on the flashlight are rated for 50,000 hours and never have to be replaced.

The flashlight is also quite tough on the outside, since it's made from a firearm-grade high-strength polymer and it's fully sealed against the elements, as well as abrasion, crack and bend-resistant. It's also fairlyh easy to carry around, since it measures 11.5 inches (30 cm) in length and a weighs around 16 ounces (453 grams).

The device from 5.11 Tactical Series has an estimated MSRP of 170 US dollars, which is actually a pretty fair price point, given the fact that this device might actually even outlast its owner.
