Recently got a TK40. Not sure what "bin" but it's brights as ______.

When I got it out of the pkg.(before I put in batts) I noticed some white "crud" in between one "set" of the cooling fins(pics will be attached to help explain).
The crud is in the 3rd(out of 4) gap from the lens going down to the tailcap. Also, the crud goes around the whole light.

While staring at this crud, I noticed that this 3rd gap looks a little deeper and has a shinier surface than the other 3 gaps. ANYONE else get the crud or notice this bigger gap??? or the "shinier" surface?

The crud is not powdery like it looks. I scraped some out( it doesn't come out that easily), and the texture feels like a "rubbery sealant"(like caulk).
I tried rinsing it out with hot water- it doesn't rinse out.

ALSO, my batt. carrier can be heard moving around in the tube when the light is shaken horizontally. Not so much when shaken up and down.
Both head and tailcap are tightened all the way down.
ANYONE elses TK40s carrier rattle when shaken??

Besides these 2/3 issues the light is "good". I will admit I was expecting way higher quality since my LD10 is doing awesome and seems to be built better.

I'am hoping that the white crud is some kind of sealant. I'm hoping that there is supposed to be some sort of "play" in the batt. tube.
heres the pics:

Here is a novel idea:
Clean It!!

It's just some excess thermal paste, probably from assembling the pill.

LOL, my plan was to clean it once I figured out what it was..... had no idea what it was-if it was "defective" I could've kept it there for "evidence".

so I'm guessing that "gap" where this thermal paste is, is a "connection" in the head assembly and thats why the gap looks a little deeper?

what about the batt. mag having play?-- if the play thing is normal, Im good to go.(never cared about the look of the paste, just thought it was out of ordinary and along with the mag. play something was possibly "not right")

FYI the performance of this light is OUTRAGEOUS-cant wait for night time.
Ill keep the paste there it doesn't bother me.... the mag. play is now on my mind.

thanks Marduke for sharing this "thermal paste" info.... :)(and also for getting my pics posted properly!)

There has to be a small bit of play in the carrier. If there was zero play, that means only one particular size of cells would fit, and anything larger would not, and anything smaller would rattle.

It's no different than any other light. If the rattle bothers you that much, insulate the carrier with a piece of paper.

BTW, in the first pic you can clearly see the gap with the thermal paste is a joint. You can see the seam in the pic, so it should be much more obvious in person.

Yeah, different brands of AA batteries (and different types like alkaline vs rechargeable) are slightly different in size. To accommodate all sizes, the tube has to be a bit larger than most AA batteries.
