Derringer Mod

Yesterday I did kind of a fun mod to my new Derringer.

After considering replacing one of the LEDs with a wide angle white Nichia (neat part, IMO) I couldn't make up my mind which of the 3 I wanted to remove.

Doing either of the whites gives you a funny white beam in dual LED modes (first 3) and makes the 'wide angle only' mode only available at low (5 mA) level. Changing the red out gives you two level options (5 and 30 mA) in modes 6 and 7 but no more red.....

So I epoxied a small slide switch on top of the IC and put a fourth LED between the red and white one next to it. It works great, you can just barely reach the switch through the battery hatch with a finger tip. The next time I do it, I'm going to put the new LED in the other way ("up and down") hoping for a little wider beam. It does fit 'just right' between the two sideways, and the case is easy enough to file, but the extreme angles still show the other LEDs. Set on a table in or near the corner, it lights the room quite well.

No, sorry, no pictures.
