E1e options? (aside from the MN01)

Are there any drop-in options for a Surefire E1e to replace the stock MN01? Or is a KL1/KX1 upgrade the only real option available (which means ditching the original head)? Thanks for the info.

I'm curious about this too. Am I correct that one can use the Malkoff VME head with an M60 on any of the E Series lights from Surefire? In particular, I have an E1B that I would love to modify with an M series drop-in from Malkoff.

Thanks in advance.

You are correct. Although I prefer to run an M30 with my E1e body since the M30 was designed to be used with a single CR123 cell.

If you don't mind using a different head, there's also the Optics HQ / TLS Q5 LED head. There's a couple of variations of it, but the E1 version is perfect for the E1E. The head is longer than the stock E1E head, but really turns the light into a powerhouse. If you normally use the clip on your E1E, the TLS head is not a good option. Clip becomes useless... well, other than as an anti-roll feature. Check out OpticsHQ.com (Under flashlight Accessories, near the bottom of the page).

If you want to keep the stock head, you could send your E1E to Scott (A.K.A. ~ MilkySpit) and have him mod the head into one very powerful LED light. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

Thanks for the advise. Sounds like Gene and company will be getting some more of my allowance real soon.

So the Malkoff M30 series drop-ins fit the stock E1e head? The drop-ins seem much larger than the MN01 bulb assembly they would replace.

You'll need to purchase the Valiant Concepts head as well to hold the M30 drop-in in place. Unfortunately the engravers seemed to have bungled the engraving, and the heads look like giant advertisments for Valiant Concepts.

I'll personally be holding out till the next batch or when they fix the engraving mess up...

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like the Lumens Factory HO-E1A would be the most cost effective option. However, I am trying to dump all my incan's in favor of LEDs, but there does not seem to be a particularly cost effective LED upgrade. I've always liked the look and feel of the E1e, but it seems to have always been substantially outperformed by LED based 1xCR123's.

I've been going through this same thing with a E2e I want to upgrade, but not spend a lot of money on. The Lumens Factory EO bulbs for Li-ions are definitely an improvement, along with running on rechargeables. Definitely more practical. I love the light, and have even been making up excuses to carry it alot, but my neutral tinted LED lights smoke it in every regard.
Short of a IMR-E2, with about a 5 minute runtime, upgrading the head will cost more than the light did to begin with.
The E1e and E2e really are good looking lights, though. I put a long clip, and natural HA McTC tailcap on my E2e, and like it so much that I actually sit there and just look at it sometimes.

LMAO. Sounds like it's advertising for some porn institute. I was appalled that anyone would engrave anything on a bezel geared to SF and Malkoff buyers, much less the front, and much less "VME HEAD" in all caps:shakehead

I have an HO-E1A in one of my E1Es and really like it. It is a little bit brighter, by ceiling bounce and hotspot-on-the-wall comparison than the stock MN01, and it is whiter. I think it is rated at 65 min. runtime, as opposed to 90 min. for the MN01. 25 lumens for 1 hour is actually a pretty useful light for around the house, or to drop in a pocket for a nighttime walk, or for anytime you might need a little light for a short period of time. Simple as that. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic. Just quality.
