I like the Q3-5A version I did so much that I decided to do a high output version using an MC-E.

The heatsink was a HUGE pain in the ***!
It seemed it took forever to wittle this thing into shape.
It started life as the big aluminum plug you see pictured above the heatsink.:duh2:

Its totally sucks trying to assemble this.
Like the previous head, the LED needs to be placed in first with thermal adhesive and then the heatsink slid in behind it. Keeping the emitter and heatsink in place perfectly while the adhesive dries is no fun.
The glass is replaced with a copped disc and will make contact with the IC on the shark helping to disapate heat(thats the plan anyway)
The top of the bezel will be removable to allow the pot to be turned up or down.

The cree is wired 2S2P using a blue shark.

There will be no beamshots as I completely destroyed the LED while trying to disassemble it for further refinement.

Luckily I have one MC-E left.
I will update as the revised version is completed

UPDATE: 7-6-09 New emitter and final assembly done.
Work as it should.

OK, after some more refinement and a ton a stupid little crap I finally got it working.
Reassembly was no fun, but it did pay off when I was finally able to use it tonight.
Now all I can see are 4 dies everytime I close my eyes..:duh2:

Beamshots added to first post.....

As Borat would say... "Verrry Niicccceee!!!" Have you done anything to protect the LED. Sort of like the lens in a Zebralight?
