I'm planning on putting together a work light for my DIY area (it all comes full circle:rolleyes:). Just wanted to run this by and make sure nothing looked crazy.

The plan is to use 4 SSC P4s (high CRI version) on a strip of a aluminum which will provide heatsinking. To drive it, I was planning on using the Xitanium 700mA version. So here are my 2 main questions:

1)How big of a piece of aluminum do I need to sink the heat in a somewhat stuffy room. I was just going to get a piece in the area of 1/2" thick, 2" wide and 6" long. But this was really just a WAG and I could be way off.

2) Can I get away with not using optics? The light will be just a couple feet above the desk and I want the whole desk illuminated smoothly. Also, will there be shadows from the 4 seperate emitters?
