I keep waiting for a small (U2 size) P7/MC-E with a brightness twist ring on the outside. Why are they not making this?

If your a manufacturer reading this PLEASE dont put strobe and SOS on the new light. Just 5 levels from low to high would be perfect.

That is not exactly U2's size, though... The Raptors are big SOBs.

The raptor 2 is U2 size but not a P7.

Its physically impossible to run a multi-die emitter at high currents, and thermally cool it enough for reliable operation in a U2 sized light.

Companies like Surefire (I mention them merely because you mention the U2) design for reliability, longevity and durability... as a priority over max brightness.

There are still the DX branded lights, Aurora, MTE, Ultrafire...etc... if you want max lumen output as a top priority over reliability and product longevity. Gary measured a P7 MTE at ~450 Lumens (initial turn on) using an IMR 18650.

Its nice to have choices... but due to the current thermal performance of LEDs you can't have it all:(
