4 to D Holder

Hi, last month I was at an electronics swap fest and picked up some battery holders that use 4 AA's in a D cell holder. When I bought these I was not thinking and assumed that they would be in serries and put out 6 volts. Anyway they are in paralel and still only put out 1.5 volts. My question is why would anyone want to use 4 AA's when it's easier just to use the D size cell in the first place? Larry.

uses aa rechargables...lithiums...
aa rechargables charge faster.

i would be extremely interested in a 4-to-d series...in fact, i tried to make one, but without a mill, i wasn't able to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm not sure what the outside diameter is on these. I only have 2 cheep D size plastic flashlights that they fit with no problem. A friend has an old Maglite 2 D size and they fit but were a little tight. In my Blaster VI they would not fit at all. Larry.
