Announcement.

I am still traveling a lot with my day job, so I will be closing this thread, and stop offering 1xD's in the short term so that I can work on my MagnetoDrive concept/project. I will open a new thread when I have more to show. Thanks again for all of the support and business, and I hope to offer 1xD's again in the future. In the meantime, please contact Jesus Hernandez, and others here in the forums for your Mag-related needs.

As always I am just an email away (in my signature), but keep in mind that with my frequent travel I might be a little bit slow in answering back.

Will

Prices for these 1xD's (which include shipping):
Any color: $60 domestic, $70 international

Extra services:
- Internal boring for 4xAA battery adapters is an extra $30
- Body/head grooving: $35 each
- Modify stock switch to work with flat cells (and optionally cut tower off) = $20
- Custom Battery Sleeves Delrin/Aluminum = $45 each

Options for using the 18650 cell in the "D" size body:
(deep tailcap mod allows for the overall length of the body to be shorter)
- Deep tailcap mod with Al plug for 18650 cell (no Delrin sleeve) = $40
- Delrin sleeve for 18650 cell and Al spring plug (no deep tailcap mod) = $40
- Deep tailcap mod with Delrin spacer and Al plug for 18650 cell (all included) = $55
- Deep tailcap mod by itself - $25
- Delrin sleeve for 18650 cell by itself = $20
- Al spring plug by itself = $20

I can cut the body as short as possible if you let me know what cell or battery back (3xAA, 4xAA, LiIon D, 18650, etc.) it will be used for.

Product/project collaboration:
- 3xAA and other adapters can be bought from forum member mdocod (Eric) here:Battery Adapters ...

- If you are interested in the 4xAA or 4x14670 adapters, you should contact forum member fivemega.

- If you are interested in a turn-key 1xD light using the SST-50/90 LED's, I recommend that you contact forum member Nailbender . You can still buy the 1xD from me and then I will mail your host directly to David for him to finish it, and ship it directly to you.

- Due to project load and family/work needs, I am not always able to take on all new projects. For additional machining and/or complete lights, I recommend that you contact forum members (this is not meant to be a complete list) LED Zeppelin , darkzero , cmacclel , or Mirage_Man .

* Please note new international shipping changes in this post as I will no longer be able to use FedEx to ship international packages.

Will

With these 1xD's you can build anything from a simple LED mod, to a VERY bright light like this one using the SST-90 LED:
Mag 1D SST-90 at about 2250 lumens built ...

Since I get asked often how much do I charge for a turn-key 1xD with a P7 emiter, , here is how much I charge for my two most popular configurations, using a 3xAA adapter from mdocod, or using a single 18650 cell:

The detailed cost for a turn-key 1xD with a P7, using a 3xAA adapter are:
- 1xD Host cut/re-thread in any color ($60 domestic - this includes shipping)
- P7 LED $30
- P7 heatsink $20 (order these from Asia - about a 3 week wait)
- deep tailcap mod $25
- mdocod 3xAA adapter $25 (I order these from forum member Eric, aka mdocod)
- assembly, labor, misc supplies (epoxy, Al, Delrin, cables, etc.) $60
- cut/modify switch for flat cells and LED wiring - free

Total with shipping = $220 (domestic)
Total with shipping = $230 (international with tracking #)

The detailed cost for a turn-key 1xD with a P7, using a single 18650 cell are:
- 1xD Host cut/re-thread in any color ($60 domestic - this includes shipping)
- P7 LED $30
- P7 heatsink $20 (order these from Asia - about a 3 week wait)
- Deep tailcap mod with Delrin spacer and Al plug for 18650 cell (all included) = $55
- assembly, labor, misc supplies (epoxy, Al, Delrin, cables, etc.) $60
- cut/modify switch for flat cells and LED wiring - free

Total with shipping = $225 (domestic)
Total with shipping = $235 (international with tracking #)

Often asked options:
- Head, body grooving is extra at $35 each

Because the P7 heatsink comes from Asia, most orders will take at least 3 weeks before I can get started. Sometimes I will have one heatsink on hand, and in that case, a build would take considerably less.

I can also do the other side (included in the extra charge) if you are using it for an LED mod and don't need the bulb pedestal:

Inside boring (extra) to allow for 4xAA battery holder such as this one:

I also make custom battery sleeves for "C" and 18650 cells (extra charge). Here are some battery/holders for comparison size-wise. From top: "C" cell, FM 4xAA holder, WQ's custom 18650 LiIon holder, FM's 4x14670 holder:

OK, I can definitely set aside one of the two Copper hosts that I have for you. So to confirm:

- cut and rethread for 1x 18650 cell
- head finning, body finning, or both?

If you could make it as short as possible to just take the 1 x 18650 please.

:thanks:

Payment received - thanks.

Yes, I can make it very short for the 18650. In fact a shorter option is to make it so that part of the 18650 cell is inside the tailcap, where I remove the anoziding and make the bottom of the tailcap flat (it is curved in the OEM tailcap), and all you would need is a small spring to make the electrical connection. Let me know and I will include this in your order for no additional cost to you.

Will, thank you for the offer with the tail cap. Please keep it as OEM as I may try to find a fancy tail cap here on CPF.
:thanks:

No problem - I will leave the tailcup totally OEM. This is why I call these 1xD's that I sell "custom" - they will be made exactly how you want them :)

Now, for the length of the main tube:
1) not the shortest possible: Do you want the 18650 cell to end at the end of the threads (approx. 0.5" from the edge), or

2) shorter by about 1/2 inch: Do you want the tube cut so that the 18650 cell matches the end of the tube, therefore the 18650 cell will be a little bit inside the tailcap?

Actually Will I think I prefer to go as short as possible, so your offer to modify the tail cap with a smaller spring is what I would like to go with.
Sorry for the chop & change here.
Cheers Rob.

No worries Rob - I have not cut the tube yet, so we are good. I will proceed with the smallest size possible.

I will post some pictures as I make progress on the build.

I have a customer from Germany interested in the second Copper host, so for now only the two Digital CAMO hosts are available.

OK, here is how your very small 1xD (technically a sub-1xD) started life - as a big 4D HOST:
DSCF7179.JPG

Here is after being cut:
DSCF7180.JPG

Note that once you insert the tailcap the battery is way inside the tailcap:
DSCF7181.JPG

Here I get the o-ring relief area and the area to be threaded ready:
DSCF7182.JPG

about to start the threading operations:
DSCF7183.JPG

threaded and polished:
DSCF7184.JPG

cutting the bevel to protect the o-ring:
DSCF7185.JPG

body grooving:
DSCF7186.JPG

head grooving (I also lightly filed the sharp edges so that you would not get cut handling the light):
DSCF7187.JPG

almost completed host:
DSCF7188.JPG

making the bottom of the tailcap flat and conductive by removing anodizing:
DSCF7189.JPG

Here is the bonus - a fitted Delrin ring that acts as a spacer for the 18650 cells:
DSCF7190.JPG

It is fitted on the OD to remain in place by friction, so it will stay put, but you can always remove it by using your finger to pull it out (and can be re-installed by pushing it back in):
DSCF7191.JPG

DSCF7192.JPG

and final bonus, to make sure you get good connectivity with flat cells, I trimmed the bottom of the switch:
DSCF7193.JPG

Here is the completed, very tiny host - all you need is a spring in the tailcup to make the electrical connection:
DSCF7194.JPG

Since yours is already paid, it will be leaving towards you via FedEx international service Monday morning. Please do let me know when you get it
