Possible to upgrade Fenix L1D CE with an R2 emitter?

I've got an old L1D CE using the P4 XR-E, and I'm wondering if it's possible to disassemble the head and replace the P4 with an R2 bin emitter? I've been running it off 14500 Li-ions since new

Any thoughts?

Yes it's possible. It can be difficult to remove the headcap/bezel without marring the anno. Depends on how much glue was used during assembly. There are some threads on how to do it. Try looking in the Homemade and Modified lights forum.

I have one with an SSC emitter. It works very nicely.

It turned out that the head was extremely easy to disassemble - I just used 2 of those super-grippy cloths used in the kitchen to open tight jars and a bit of brute force

Will buy an R2 led and solder it up tomorrow, could I reasonably expect around 170 torch lumens? I recall it puts out about 110-120 torch lumens on the 14500 using the P4 with just under one hour runtime


Update: Well, while the head was easy to disassemble, soldering the actual emitter was a royal pain in the... Finally got it working tho, noticeably brighter and a warmer tint... =)
