Are Maglite's ANODIZED or POWDER COATED?

I recently bought a laser engraver and I have been engraving a lot of anodized aluminum, but when I try to engrave a Maglite flashlight looks like the aluminum is not smooth in some areas.

I have engraved a lot of cheap and expensive anodized flahlights and get excellent results, but not with the Maglite flashlight.

Are they 2 versions? The one I'm engraving is a 3watts 3 AA flashlight and it looks powder coated but I'm not sure

Generally M*ags are anodized, what's different from most other lights is the colour pigment.
I have stripped one with drano and found it to be extremely thick in some places (2-3 times!)
I think It's part of the durability that the pigment layer is as thick as possible.

I engraved the cap of an old mag 4D yeasterday running 67% speed, 45% power scan gap 0.01800. It went right thru the ano exposing the alu. I have a cheap 80W china laser.

I have an old camo mini maglite - the camo is painted, but it has anodizing under it.
