I thought it would be cool to see what all you CPFers have done with your Malkoffs, such as what hosts you are using, cool legos, the maglites, etc. I'm especially interested in the smaller form factors that you have managed to cram the M60 into. Single celled versions, surefires, Gene's own blend, it's all good.

My original M60 (one of the last handmade ones) has by far the best beam for me, as well as a nice tint. I'd like to see what else I can fit it into.

Now for pics! If you can put a description of what model and what host, it would be helpful for everyone.

Here's my lowly Surefire 6P, leef tailcap, novatac clip, original M60:

OK, I'll bite.

Here's my weirdly purple iPhone pic of my VG FB1 with Malkoff VME head, running a M30WF inside.....

This is one of my most used lights, especially for any indoor applications.

I was just taking some pics of some older lights, and decided to take a quick shot of this as well...

Pre-brass body (and M60 designation) MD P60 Q2

(does not fit in the MD2 or VME heads, BTW)

M60W and M60WLF just went from the top two lights to the bottom two.

The ano is a better match with the Aleph body, but I'm really liking the VME bezel on the E2D. Soon as a I get rid of the white lettering at the front of the bezel, and put the long clip on, it'll be straight:thumbsup:

When I saw a Klingon brandishing his weapon light with a malkoff, I knew I has to wrestled it from him. My life-and-death battle with him lasted 2 hours. I won and here's my trophy. ;)

Didn't realise Klingons like to use Solarforce L2M with M60 (scribed version)

Here is what I would say is the ultimate EDC for me.
  • Tail Stand
  • Thin and smaller than 6P from Surefire
  • AA Alkaline compatible for emergencies
  • AA NiMH compatible
  • 17500 compatible for ultimate brightness
  • P60 compatible for versatility
  • Only the best components used.
Here is the Aleph 17500 body, Surefire clickie, Malkoff E-Series bezel, and Malkoff M30.

• M30 drop in
• E1E body
• Z68 tailcap with McE2s 60 ohm switch & 4Sevens tactical blue bootie
• LEGO skeleton head lanyard :grin2:

I am very happy with several M60 emitters in 6P and MD2 bodies with the dimmer ring. The only thing that might dethrone the M60 for sheer lumens with a single 18650 is the much cheaper MC-E available from KD and DX, but I wouldn't trust my life to it. Gene's stuff is way more reliable, has a better throw/spill pattern, and the MD2 with a dimmer ring makes a more usable (lower) low-beam. I dislike "modes" that change when you touch the on-off switch. Battery life is halved with the MC-E.

Recently I bought an M60F and loved the way it lights up the whole room at once. Taking that concept a step further, I tried an M60WF MC-E in an MD4 body with 2x18650 for power. WOW! Now I am thinking about replacing all the cool white LEDs with the more neutral "warm" version. Or maybe just get another MD4 with the M60WF MC-E and duplicate the wall of sunlight I am getting.

I still want a Wildcat, even though it is still cool-white. Just watch, right after I buy the cool white version, Gene will come out with a warm version. Sigh. Maybe I'll lock my credit cards in the safe until then.

I also have a Maglite 2D with 2x18650 and a Malkoff P7 drop-in for Maglite. It is much brighter than the MC-E warm light. Actually it's TOO bright for tactical use in the house - it takes away your night vision completely. When you turn it off, you are blind. It's great outdoors, though.

Here is a comparison of the M60F and M60WF-MC-E, taken with a 104 degree field of view.

First the M60F (flood) with 1x18650 in an MD2:

Here's the M60WF (warm flood) MC-E with 2x18650 in an MD4:

Gotta love the extended spill and wonderful color rendition of the warm + flood version of the MC-E. No need to move the hot spot around to search, I can concentrate on more important things. The low beam is excellent too. It does get kinda warm after a few minutes, but not too hot to hold.

Kudos to Gene for the great products he has built!

post tenebras,

May I ask where you got your sapphire lens? How thick is the lens?
