FS: Aluminium Headlamp (Kit or Assembled)

Available:
0 Kits
2 Assembled

1 assembled sold to jdriller. + battery, charger, extension cable and spare connectors.
1 assembled sold to hockne. + extra connectors but no battery.

The background can be found in this thread:
https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/233854

THE KIT:

This is what a few of the parts look like:
They are sandblasted and annodised black.

I'm uncertain what the kit should include so feel free to request more or less. I'm not particularly keen to re-sell the LEDs and other off-the-shelf parts but let me know if you want them included.

The kit includes:

Aluminium parts:
Main body
Front cover
Back cover
Switch flange
Bracket (for elastic strap)
Retaining ring (holds the aspheric lens in place)

Screws:
(Stainless or zinc plated - painted black with enamel paint.)
M2 and 3/16
Nylon washers for 3/16 screws.

Misc:
Flat Polycarbonate lens (2mm thick)
BK7 Aspheric Lens (see https://www.candlepowerforums.com/posts/2893087)
Self-adhesive soft foam pad for where the bracket rests against your head.
Cable, connector (Oring sealed)

DX parts
(I'll throw these in since they are pretty cheap)
Switch cover (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5742)
Switch (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5660)

With the above kit, you will need to provide:

LEDs (I suggest 1 XR-E and 2 XP-E/XP-G)
Optics for XP LEDs (I suggest Carclo square 10mm)
Driver(s)
Wires, solder etc
Silicon / glue if you want it to be waterproof
Battery, charger
Elastic and buckles to adjust tension
Velcro (I sew Velcro into the elastic to hold the battery in place. This works great with 2 18650s)

Also note:
The machinist accidentally machined 1mm too deep on the ledge that holds the aspheric lens. So I make loop out of 1.0 mm solder and put that on the ledge before glueing the lens on. Nice and easy and works well. An Oring or anything else 30mm diameter and 1mm thick would work too.

Sometime I'll post instructions for the assembly if people want them, but most of it is pretty obvious.

The Assembled Light:
I have a few assembled lights sitting on my shelf if anyone wants one.

These lights have XR-E R2 as the spot and 2 XPG-R5s for the flood.

The Spot is driven at 1000mA (regulated).

The Flood is resistor driven at around 700-500mA on high and 150-100mA on low.

The assembled light will not include a battery or charger since Australia Post will not take the battery and the charger will only work with Australian powerpoints. Of course if you want the battery and/or charger, then PM and I will include them.

I will include 2 extra cables with connectors so that you can make your own battery pack and charger. The battery pack must operate in the 6-8.4V range, ie 2S Li-Ion or 6S NiMh. The connectors I use are O-ring sealed and screw together.

Costs:

Kit: AUD$150
Assembled: AUD$250

Postage and packaging anywhere in the world:
Airmail - AUD$15
Registered Airmail - AUD$25

NB: if you want me to send the battery, then the postage cost will be AUD$88. Australia Post will not send Lithium cells so I have to use a private courier. If you know a better way to send Lithium cells from Australia then please let me know!

Paypal: [email protected]

Re: Aluminium Headlamp Kit

That is a beautiful looking headlight! That's the only thing I don't own, a custom headlight! I still use the Energizer Trailfinder 3 LED Headlight.

I really need to invest in one of these beauties!!

I'm a bit of a clutz with the old soldering iron so would you be willing to finish one out and sell it as a whole complete light. For extra $ of course. PM me if your interested in that.

How many are available?

Is that $150 american?

This looks really cool!

Can a lense be added to the kit?

More than happy to, but not in the next month or two. I already have local orders for about 15 and they will consume all my 'hobby time' for a while. The finished ones will sell for AUD$250. The big jump in price is because of the time it takes me rather than the components. It may also cost more to send because I can't use the standard Australia post for lithium cells.

5 are available. I will add that to the first post. I had a bunch of people ask me to make headlights for them and I got a few extra done in the machining run.

$150 Australian, so a few less American Dollars (US$128 at time of writing).

Thank you!

The Aspheric lens is already included.

I have added a few assembled lights to the sales thread since I have them on the shelf.

Everything is flexible if you want me to add or remove things.
