A friend of mine goes coyote hunting and is currently using a QBeam 3,000,000 candlepower light. It's a tank and gets real heavy real fast in the field. I'm going to help him build a Mag85 to replace the QBeam, but he needs to use a red filter on it for hunting the coyotes.

Any idea where we can get/make a red filter for a 3C Mag85 that is removable? The red filter allows them see the coyotes without making them skittish.

Any ideas??

All I know of are the red maglite lenses, but those are plastic and wont stand up to the heat of a Mag85.

And some colour gel Lee 106

With a little effort this should be the result:

Excellent ideas, thanks very much! I'll get with my friend and see what route he wants to go. I'm assuming he'll want to use the flip-top rifle scope cover w/ gel to make the light more versatile. But in looking at this item in the link, it doesn't look like it has a lens at all. How does this work? Do I insert the lens from the stock Mag or get a 2nd borofloat lens for it?

Thanks again for the help!

Why?

Just cut a hole and attach the gel from the inside. If you are afraid he might poke the gel then by all means back it up with a lens.

As to assembling, hmmm. Creativity.
