A very dark world.
Question: How many message board posters does it take to change a light bulb?

1 forum newbie opens a thread and asks how to change a light bulb.
5 minutes later an experienced forum member posts detailed instructions.
5 other members post their similar experiences changing light bulbs.
7 report on other methods for changing light bulbs.
3 point out the typos and grammar mistakes in the light bulb posts.
8 members are upset about the grammar experts.
9 write that this is not the right place for discussing light bulbs and this
discussion should be carried on in old.lite.bulb.
10 defend the thread, since we all use light bulbs and this thread therefore belongs in this forum.
21 members debate which light bulb changing method is superior, where the best light bulbs can be purchased, which kind of light bulb is best and which brands are bad quality.
6 post URLs which show light bulbs.
5 say that the previous URLs are wrong and post the right addresses.
14 respond with "Me 2." or "ur stupid" without bothering to quote.
7 announce that they will leave the forum because they can't stand these constant light bulb discussions.
1 member suggest starting a newsgroup change.old.lite.bulb.
2 say that a cold fusion folder has already been set up for this topic.
4 suggest that the posters read the light bulb FAQ.
5 members point out old threads that have already handled this topic.

Answer: It takes 109 forum members to change one light bulb.

right behind you. LOOK!
Actually, the right answer is ZERO!
A real flashaholic would sit there with his umpteen different lamps, lanterns, flashlights etc. and not bother to change the bulb.
Some CPFers might hold the flashlight while someone else changes the bulb!

Perhaps a corollary would be how many CPFers change a perfectly good light bulb?

109 members to change a bulb? That's reasonable. We want to do it correctly with optimal effect don't we?

Stainless, though you have a uniquely creative way of looking at things, you are usually quite accurate and I find this calculation to be in line with your typically veracious conclusions. I'm just happy to know 108 guys will make sure I do it right.

You forgot about the legions who will comment on what to do after the initial ill-fated removal effort resulted in breaking off the top of the glass envelope. This, of course, requires an alternative removal procedure. (Also a discussion on the toxicity an hazardous nature of both the broken glass and any phosphors.)

There will also be many who talk about many modifications of possible use regimens to reduce bulb failures as well as the expected failure profiles of alternative bulbs.

Add 15 to that 109, here's where they get involved:

6 people chime in and say forget the light bulb and get one of dat2zip's sandwich mods to fix it.

4 people say an Arc AAA is all you really need to see with, forget the bulb.

5 people say get both.

Actually,
Besides the 109... there will be 12 to post beam shots, another 5 to point out the incorrect way they posted the beam shots, 7 more to do it correctly and 4 more to overdrive the bulb to various voltages. 8 more people will ask for temperature readings by overdriving the bulb, 6 more to post the temps.
Then someone will post a different brand of light bulb and the tragedy starts again. Figure after the 1,314 treads are over, 1,200 bulbs will die, 47KW of energy will be used and another $1,800 goes down the toilet.
Once a normal person reads all that mess, he will go back to torches to light up the cave.

How many CPFers does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to notice that its darker than it should be..

3 to whip out an Arc AAA, Sf E2e, and a Blaster VI at the slightest suggestion of impending darkness

2 to ask why the heck it wasn't an LED in the first place

1 to ask whether this is the correct forum for this thread

5 to offer to make a 5W LS mod to replace it with

8 to argue over the best type of heatsink for the 5W LS

1 to mention that he just happens to have a reel of X3U Luxeons, and he *might* have some spares after he's done with his latest mod

10 to post "PM Sent!!!"

1 to post a really neat and amusing graphic

2 to ask for beam shots

7 to ask whether it can be done in black HAIII

4 to post "Paypal Sent!!!"

8 to argue whether it should be current or voltage regulated

6 to say that they should put a 10W HID lamp in there

3 to say they wish they could get a Maxabeam

1 to completely refabricate the entire light socket, assembly, and surroundings out of Titanium with 4 5W LSs mounted in a really cool way that no one else could have come up with, and quietly post "Here's just another little thing I've been working on.."

9 more to post "Paypal Sent!!!"

5 to say that they should just hang an SF M6 from the ceiling

3 to ask where they can get cheap SF123s

1 to actually order a replacement bulb online

3 to discuss whether UPS, Fedex or USPS delivery is better

4 to complain that they just got a 'delivery attempted' note, and now the package will be sitting at the UPS/Fedex/USPS depot for the weekend.

1 to pick up the package, replace the bulb, tell everyone "Nothing to see here, folks. Move along", and lock the thread.

3 to start a new thread about changing lightbulbs in the Cafe.

Answer: 92. But the thread lives on..

Not to mention the people who would suggest something other than a traditional light bulb...

(where's that LS...)

add one frustrated mod. (Mac user) to lock the thread...
and a few to complain about the thread being locked prematurely... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
