They are Cree Q5...and I think WG.
On a single Li-Ion, current output is ~1A to each emitter.

Yes WG, Q5 emitters. Here is the picture of the li-in AW C cells that I will include (they are not sold anymore). Also, If I am not mistaken the Malkoff Quad and Tripples have individual drivers for each emitter. This means that if one LED ever goes out, the others will still shine. The current at the tail is 2.9~3.0 with a single IMR C cell or AW C cell.
At 686 out the front lumens each Q5 is putting out at least 220 each......Now that rocks.
