spear 'clone' was working normally 6 months ago, has just sat unused for months.

went to use it today and it comes on but.

when i put it into 'high' mode, it drops into low mode after 2 seconds and then blinks slowly?

ive tried good batteries and it does this same behaviour with them all?

when i short the back of the light (bypassing the switch) it does the same thing?

light engine and all looks normal?

new driver?

Bad contact somewhere in the head maybe, or dirty / corroded battery contacts?

I'm not familiar with this light, but I'm guessing it thinks the battery is low for some reason - as you've tried it with fresh batteries, my money's on the contact points.

i gave it a good clean all over with electrical contact cleaner,

problem is still there.

the l.e.d. seems to be sitting on a white round piece of plastic/cardboard ??

and is held in place by the rear of the reflector (pressure/clamped), when i remove the reflector the l.e.d. can be easily moved away from the heat sink.

is this normal?

drops out of high mode in about 2 seconds, then blinks in low?

ill just make it direct drive if the driver has failed, but the low is quite useable if i can get the light to work normally again.

is the driver board meant to be soldered/attached to the rear of the heatsink

or is it meant to be loose?

73 views and almost no one has even an idea what the issue is?

i killed it :mecry:

bottom line is, i couldnt get the light to work normally,

so

i connected the l.e.d. straight to the 3.7v freshly charged battery.... the l.e.d. was bright for about half a second and then dim...very dim, i could see it producing about 1/4 of 1 lumen but almost nothing.( i thought the l.e.d would handle 3.7v?)

im glad its only a $40 light.

but id like to get her working again if anyone has any ideas?

i could mail the heat sink and driver to someone and have them instal a new l.e.d and solder if anyone is interested?

pm me if you have an l.e.d. that will work and are good at soldering.:candle:

Freshly charged LiIon means ~4.2v, not 3.7v. LEDs come in many different voltages - direct-driving it without researching your particular LED wasn't a smart idea. Note also that they can't limit their own current consumption at all well; if you don't have at least a resistor in the way... :poof:

so can you recc a new LED to direct drive?

Maybe your light is nothing wrong.
Try new battery, after you charge the battery, it should be 4.2 volt.
