I have one of the first Di's but didn't really use it for the first year.
just recently its getting used more and more but today i have totally lost the user defined mode, i have either high or off if i turn the head.

i have changed the switch and also cleaned the contacts but still nothing, not even strobe.

whats up ?

As its so old i guess i cant really send it back to nitecore

It almost sounds like the brass contact ring inside the head is stuck down. You might try rotating it or try to see if it moves up and down.

There might be something conductive between the PCB and threads.

Stupid question, but did you try resetting the level of the user defined mode? It may have been accidently set to high.

Ive given the head a few taps to see if anything is obviously floating around inside.

the head needs to be really tight for the list to work at all.
if you loosen this be even 0.1mm it turns off and wont select the 2nd level or strobe.

Have you cleaned all the threads really well? I had the same sort of thing happen to my P3D when I hadn't used it for a while. The bare aluminum (the electrical path) had oxidized some and so the power wasn't flowing through it. I don't know if you've tried cleaning them or not already but that might be a good thing to do.
