Hi
I am curious if anyone has tried running WA's 14w hid system on 8aa alks or nimh? I have ran their 10w on 8aa alkalines which has worked great.
The price of the 14w has come down alot so id like to upgrade.
Thanks!

*edit
was thinking about 9aa alkalines

I think that is only 1.2x8=9.6

doesnt it need 12 to 14v?

Mettee he said alkalines 8x1.5v=12v
And No DON'T exceed 12v (12.6v from 3xRCR123 is okay but I suspect thats due to voltage sag on startup)

SPC you mentioned NiMH can you get it to strike on NiMH? I suppose a hot charged pack holds ~11v and IIRC 10.8v was the rated start voltage on the 10w WA

My 10W EzNite runs for ~45min on 3xRCR123
How long will yours run on 8xAA alkaline?

Re: WA 14w hid run on 8aa?

yea, I dont think nimh will cut it for the 14w. I was wondering if the sag from alkalines would still be enough.

8 alkalines on the 10w would bring the volt sag right to about 10.5-11v so it was fine for that. nein166, I got about the same runtime with 8aa alks on my 10w setup.

So maybe a boost regulator of some kind? to keep the voltage at 12v?

WOW!

The Solarc NGX Ballast B10R001 is down to $30. It was $65 a few months ago!

The M10N003 Single Ended Lamp With Dome is now $46, was $89.

The sad thing, I can't find the M10N004 Single Ended Solarc HID Lamp no Dome on the site anymore, I hope they didn't discontinue it!!

Thanks for the heads up!

I dunno, it's going to draw over an amp after startup. That's a lot for alk aa's.

yeah I couldnt find the domeless bulb either but for the price, get two bulbs and de-dome one of them yourself. You need a 100$ order anyway

Small useless update,

I heard back from WA:
"Our product number M10N004 is still available. The cost is $46.00 each with a minimum $100.00 order."

just covering the part he said about the "nimh" but yes the alks might work but it would kill them fast. Well fast is in the eye of the beholder, he might not really care

I was thinking about maybe a 3D maglite with a 9aa-3d adapter. This would give over 13v with alkalines.

Anyone have one of these setups mind trying it out?
