i learned 3 things.

1. the switch on the clone burns out after about 2 minutes DD on a fresh 18650.:mecry:

2. working on flashlights is much harder then id think.

3. photographing beam shots with a point and shoot camera is tricky.

im done modding,

ill leave it to you guys, and ill buy em when your bored with em.

look for a deal on a box of several lights that need work, some teflon wire, and arctic adhesive in the bst in the next 24 hours.

i had to grind my $10 soldering iron to a fine point to even begin this

if you want ill throw it in the box with half a roll of rosin core solder. :D

i like having a few..... several good lights around,

i can do that for $60- $150 a light (lots of people doing customs here)

couple times a year as new LEDS arrive.

no tools required.

sure ill always be 9 months behind but the gremlins will have been worked out

So what's the trick to keep the switch from burning up? I'm getting ready to build a couple of SST-90 direct drive lights.

McGizmo clickies?

McGizmo clickies?

switch has to be able to handle the,

voltage?
current?
amps?

not sure which one it is?

some electronics in lights reduce the amount of above,

direct drive bypases these electronics and apparently the switch can die :sick2:

i just bought another WORKING 3 mode 1x18650 mc-e light used for $35.in the marketplace

just not worth me modding, i dont have any idea what im doing :p

Re: DD P7 in a spear clone mod.

send me an email on what u want for ur stuff........ and some pics if u have any [email protected]

i have

1. original 'mini' 1 x 18650 from shining beam, direct drive, (badly done by me)..works. bright and small

2. solarforce, 3x 123 (or rcr123) with 3 emitters in the head, single mode currently as switch does not work. bright.

3. spear clone, with a P7 modd (badly by me)and a burnt switch. works if i short the battery to the tube so the P7 is good its also centered ok.this light has also been painted bright orange by me...badly :D

40 feet of 24 g teflon wire 93% left of new alumina epoxy.

and maybe a few spare switches i got with new lights, some 123 batteries (i dont use 123s anymore) and whatever else i find i dont want / need.

if anyone is interested ill throw em all in a box with some packing.

straight trade for 1 x $45 (approx) working light.?

AA, 18650, C or D cells.

123s no.

if your any good at modding they might be some fun hosts to play with

well i got bored and dug out a spare switch from another 18650 light.

managed to get the P7 clone working again :)

it was easier the second time.

perhaps ill continue to break out the solder occasionally?

now how to take a good beam shot with a point and shoot?

I'd be interested in knowing how the P7's throw compares to that of the original emitter. I'm sure the beam is way tighter than the PLI, right?
