Hello all!

Magnus from Sweden here.

I've just gotten my hands on a MagCharger body without any of the useful bits 'n' bobs:oops:
I wonder if You could help me get the light up'n running??
No battery.
No charger.

I will use the torch/flashligt around the house, going camping, walks in the woods and such.
It will not need to be charged in a car, nor be on continous charge.

I've been using the the search button for the last hour and so but i'm suffering from information overlad now:poof:

This https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/47995 is a helpful thread and i think level 1:2 is about the highest i'd like to go, (Level 1.2.2 - MC85 sounds intriguing though, 9xAA NiMh :grin2:)

I do have one or two NiCad/NiMh chargers for AAA--> D cells.

So any help You can give is most appreaciated!

All the BEST!
/Magnus

Other torches in our house;
MagLite 3D with LED conversion bulb + glass lens from USA.
Li-ion battery+charger for a Fenix L0D Q4, but the torch is missplaced,
need to replace that one....
UltraFire C3 with Li-ion battery.

And soooon.... a MagCharger

DUDE! :welcome: The MC85 rocks! Theres some parts you need but thankfully not many.

You'll need

This
https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/200160

A 9aa to 3d adapter
https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/244640

A WA1185 bulb

The previous things are all available from Five Mega.

I believe this is the charger you will need.
http://www.batteryspace.com/multi-c...6v-18vnimhbatterypackstamiyaplugullisted.aspx

They sell AA nimh there as well.

You will also need a male tamiya plug and a small amount of insulated 22 gauge wire to make a pack charging adapter (the charging plug comes with the 9aa to 3d adapter). Someone at CPF could also make this for you don't feel you can.

Alternatively you could try getting a charging cradle and wiring that to the male tamiya plug. Then you wouldn't have to remove the battery from the light to charge it.

To install the ceramic slug the light has to be taken apart. Remove the bezel and head from the light (bezel unscrews, the head slides off). Then the light unscrews at the charging rings its best to put the battery section in a vice (wrapped in a rag) and turn the end the head was on with a strap wrench or channel locks with another rag. There should be 3 sections. The switch can be removed from the third by depressing it, removing the rubber cover and then sliding the switch out the bottom while depressing the button.

You can avoid this and install the bulb directly in the plastic holder but it will melt the plastic. Some have made heat shields by drilling pieces of mica to prevent melting. This works but I think the ceramic slug is a better option (it has a nice set screw to keep the bulb from moving).

Anyways if there's anything you need feel free to ask. And once again welcome. It's always great to see more fans of incandescent lights!:twothumbs

Thank´s Al:wave: But since i've never had the complete kit i thought i'd skip the original and go beyond:party:

The MC85 seems to be my thing:thumbsup:
AA-batteries are more usefull around the house then ½-D, so the MC85 is spot on!
Q. Could i not charge the batteries in my normal (NiMh)charger? I don't mind the "hassle" of taking them out of the 9aa to 3d adapter every time.

This will be FUN! lovecpf

All the BEST!
/M

Yes! I do suffer from SAAD, but i'm in treatment:whistle:

You can also use a Phillips 5761 bulb. All you have to do is enlarge the reflector opening and use a mica shield between the bulb and socket.Gives a bunch of light although runtime will be at least half of the original bulb.

Yes! I do suffer from SAAD, but i'm in treatment:whistle:

Yes it's possible to remove them from the adapter and charge individually.

Now, Lenses... If I understand correctly the borofloat lens is not really needed for for the MC85!?! The best lens for me should be the UCL then right??

I'm thinking of buying two of whatever lens I (you) choose, one sregular and one LDF.

What sayeth Ye :)

All the BEST!

As i proceed to transform the m*gcharger into an M85....:mecry: It turns out that the previous owner has managed to screw the lens cap on wonky-like:crazy:
Won't come off despite lubrication-heat-12h wait-vice-oil filter removal tools etc. etc.
In the bin!!!:sigh:
Stay on the bright side..... I only paid $12 for it

The hunt for another head or complete m*gcharger has begun:naughty:

Hmmmm?

All might not be lost:ironic:

With the help of two hose clamps, a vice and a mallet....

If You need a really good grip, use some innertube for protection and then tighten the hose clamps, Wow!! I whish i'd thought of that from the get go:oops:

With quite a bit of luck all I need is a new face cap for the m*gcharger.

All the BEST!
/M*gnus
