Hi!

I noticed that KD is selling two new flashlights with the new CREE XP-G R5. But why does they have so few lumens?

They are rated at 139 lumens, which is very low. Even a XP-E R2 seems brighter (usally rated at 250). How can this be true?

May be XP-E R2 at 250 are overrated, but I guess they do the same with XP-G R5.

I thought ordering one of them, but they doesn't seem really bright and the battery life is not so long neither.

These are the two flashlights which I found:

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Joan.

LEDs can be driven at different currents for different outputs, which could explain the ratings. But the runtimes do still seem short.

Who would believe a single one of those values to begin with? Especially from the absolute worst store to deal with...

So, if it's a real XP-G R5 what would be the highest lumen rate? Would be better than a XP-E R2?

That would depend on the drive currents being compared. You can make a "real XP-G" light that is dimmer than a firefly if you want.

Then I don't understand, if they have the newest stuff from CREE, why don't they use it better?:shrug:

Well, the specs are totally imaginary to begin with, so...

It would not surprise me of it wasn't even an XP-G.

they say current draw are 2.130 amp at 4.2v, it must give more than 300 lumens

Well, after they scammed CPF a number of years ago and changed names to avoid the bad plublicity, and were bad enough for eBay to ban them (which is impressive).... :whistle:

Something just does not add up here. If it was being pushed at full power a 90 minute runtime would make since, but the lumen to runtime ratio does not make since. They don't have a clue on this one.

That's one of those buy and try lights, and even then you don't know if you get what is advertised. But you get what you pay for as they say.

I didn't know that.

I had to threaten not to use them ever again just to get some 10mm XP-E boards after they sent me XR-E boards. This was after numerous email exchanges with them and they claimed they could not see the pictures. I eventually got fed up with this and said nevermind and I would just never use them again, and then they decide to play nice, all this for a 2.50 item.:shakehead

Regardless, I still don't have the boards yet. Never again.

I bought 12 "Sanyo Eneloop" AA batteries from them. They were fakes so I recycled them so not to contaminate my real Eneloops. I'm staying away from that site since I don't like flipping coins to see if I get the product and it is what it says it is.

Well, i think they do have the XP-G led because you can barely make out the 4 lines in it compared to the 3 in the XP-E. Someone must have just had a long night at KD whent they were filling in the specs.

Fellas read the specs section.
Direct Drive
High/Mid/Low/Strobe/SOS
:crackup::crackup::crackup:

old4570 & moviles nailed the 139 lumen bit.
They just copied the # from the spec sheet the way those P7 torch makers copied 900 lumens from the SSC spec sheet.
:crackup::crackup::crackup:

The 90 minutes runtime is reasonable for DD a XP-G with a 18650.

If its 139 per 350mA then it might really pump ..

Just depends on the driver used .. My guess is its a 1A 5 mode driver ..
Which one ??

Again , just slinging mud ATM !

Some one buy one and let us know ! :candle:
