So I was in the gun shop today getting some ammo for my husband. And up on one of the shelves behind the counter, I spy a very shiney, new 6P. Well because I know the owner so well and he has learned to just indulge me, I went behind the counter and snagged up the 6P and turned to the owner and said, "I want this!". It was a brand new 6P - Original in gun metal grey. Beauty!!

So Mehdi (the owner) says to me, "You want that?" and I told him that yes, I wanted to buy it for my son for his upcoming birthday. He asked me, "Well is he worth that much money?" and I told him that no, he wasn't but he'd appreciate it anyway and take good care of it. He laughed, of course and then asked me, "Seriously... do you want to spend that much on a flashlight for him?".

At that point, my husband was rolling his eyes and said, "You should see what's in her purse!". And with that, he started digging through my purse and pulled out my new E2e. The other customers in the shop came over and started "oooo"ing and "aaahhh"ing it. And Medhi was VERY impressed!

Then I told him that I had an L4 coming on Monday. He asked what that was and I told him what I knew. At this point, I was still behind the counter and I had the attention of every guy in the shop... it was pretty cool... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So then Medhi said to me, "You should work for Surefire!"... at which point my husband rolled his eyes again and said, "She just about does already". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Everyone looked at me and Medhi said, "Really? ... How much can you get an M6 for?" I told him I'd get back to him on that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It was a fun experience and I have all of you guys here to thank. See? I AM learning stuff from you all!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a very cool recollection. And I thought I was worried because I've only got 4K left to work with on my LED website... you on the other hand, had to please a large live audience at a gun store!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I went into my local "Security Supply Store" and they didn't even know what an L4 was! When the KL1 came out, they didn't know what that was either...I had to tell them.

You walk in and would almost think they had at least one of each SureFire model on display shelf (and would know something about them!)...almost looks like Als collection - BUT NOT!!. It's like they are getting their release info from the SureFire website...

Went to another local "Security Supply Store"...asked them about some of their SureFires on display...they couldn't answer the questions, said those were ordered primarily for LEOs..tried to sell me a Streamlight Scorpion..stressed the replacement cost of the bulbs...

We are so fortunate here with the info posted here on the CPF!!

You'd be surprised at how many dealers who actually have never even seen a KL1 before, even if they have SureFires in stock, nevermind the L4 or the A2...

It's kind'a sad, actually...

I went into my local gun shop and checked what they had in flashlights. Not much, just an old dusty E2 [not E2e], and they wanted $95 for it. No wonder it was dusty.

Well this whole "moment" has snowballed. I got my L4 today and brought it by the gun shop to show the owner. It took him all of about 30 seconds to get on the phone with his distributor and order a couple of KL4 heads for 6P bodies. He ordered a couple of those too. He LOVED the thing!! (I do too, btw... it is one bitchin' light! I ended up having to order another one for my husband 'cuz I decided not to let him use mine... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Anyway... so one thing leads to another and Mehdi started asking me about stuff and so I went to his office and brought up CPF on his computer. He started asking me about CPF and I explained to him what we're all about and how we work. He then asked me if I could do that for him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif I asked him what he wanted and he said that he wanted me to build him a site... an online store... and then run it for him.

Guys... let me tell you about this gun shop. This guy sells nothing but top of the line, high-end, specialized, specialty firearms. If he doesn't have it, he can get it or have it built for you. And he also carries Benchmade and Surefire. He's the most honest businessman that I've ever met and had the pleasure to deal with. He's good.

So what would you all think about having access to an online gun shop? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a big job, Sasha, but if you feel up to it, GO FOR IT!

Doing a site for a business and business person you can respect is a real plus. Be sure to get paid for this, and to set prices that are fair to both of you.

As to an on-lne gun shop? I think it is a good idea, especially if he does custom work and has a whole bunch of accessories and such. There is fairly small selection on-line and most are very specialized - if Mehdi has a broad enough range of services and parts (aside from serialized frames - those are another federal story) he just may find himself with a lot more business.

If I could find a "one stop shop" that could ship me good night sights for my S&W 9's, decent concealed carry crossdraw holsters for same, a holster for my li'l KelTec P32, and a set of new recoil and firing-pin springs for one of my pistols, and a good locking case, that would be nice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Question is, how complex a site does he want? If he wants to list everything, exhaustively, that's on thing, if he wants to just say "we can get most anything, call us" that's quite another ...

What do YOU think, Sasha? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

chamenos... no... I mean a KL4 for a 6P. He ordered them today.

Tom... the cool thing about Mehdi is that he has people. He doesn't do any of the "making" himself. But because he has been in business for quite a few years and because he is such an exellent dealer, he knows many, many people in the industry. And knows who to call to get what he wants or what YOU want!

Anyway... this all just kinda came about today. Mehdi wants to get a whole new computer and a DSL connection in his office first before he lets me at it. I told him that I thought I could wait for him to do that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The site will be set up according to his specifications. I don't know yet what exactly he wants. We'll get more into details later.

I have to admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. All I wanted was to help him organize his inventory for a few extra bucks a month to help pay for my new pool. I'm also going to be starting soon working at the police department as a volunteer (not getting paid... again!! what's wrong with me?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif ) analyst for the two detective sections. I've been trying to get that position for about a year and now that the guy who hates me (I pissed him off because I wrote a letter to the editor a couple years ago... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif ) has finally retired, I've been approved.

And here I was thinking that I'd have nothing to keep me busy once I closed my business back in December!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Since this deals with weapons, Google will censor the site out of their searches. I ran across a store before (can't remember which one) that was censored out due to Google's Kalifornia Socialistic Idiotology.

I just want you to be aware of that, Sasha. Congratulations on your new position (LEO related). Is this one a Profiling type analyst position? (yes or no is fine without going into details.)

If he did not feel you could handle it, he wouldn't have asked.

Did he join CPF?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Charles... I'm not in California and I'm not real worried about being censored out of searches. Word of mouth is what I'm going for and I think it will turn out to be more than enough... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thank you though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The analyst position is more of a secretary position... sorta/kinda. The two sections, criminal investigations and special investigations, don't work together. Or cases that both of them are working on from different angles, never come together. The analyst will bring the two houses together. This will be done by compiling data and "analizing" it and passing it on to where it needs to go.

Right now, there is no paid position within the department for this. But there needs to be. I don't have formal training or experience so I wouldn't expect to be paid. But I can do the job. I do some of it here at home right now. Anyway, it will be a neat experience and I can make my own hours. That's the part I like! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as the gun shop goes, I'll be going back to talk to the owner today. I'm going to get another tattoo at noon and the gun shop is across the street... works out well for me... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I did some research last night and have a few things to talk to the owner about. I'm pretty excited about this! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck Sasha! Unfortunately, your online gun shop will need it all the luck you can get once the $&^*$#@ liberals find it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now you have to get a Blaster III to show around the police station - and besides, you need one anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good luck on both fronts. Of course you should be paid for both jobs. Look into being a independant contractor with the Police Dept. It might be easier then them making it a budgeted position.

Thanks guys... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The gun shop thing has been put on the back burner until the fall. We need to get a few things in order first but it's a definate go. Meanwhile, I just bought a Bushmaster AR15 'DCM' Competition Rifle 223 to compete in military shoots. That gun shop always costs me money... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

This "postponement" will work out great for my position at the PD also. I'll be able to get in there and get settled and establish my hours and then work in the rest. It's all falling into place... I love when that happens... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
