questions... U.S. Navy diving lamp.

Hello,

I am cleaning out an attic for a relative. Anything I want I keep, save for sentimental items. I have salvaged an old U.S. Navy diving lamp. It's practically a yellow cube with a large flood style bulb, top mounted handle, and toggle switch. I got a battery for it, and it works, even under water. What is it? When was it used? Is it a collectors item? Does it have any value to anyone? Or should I continue to dive with it?

Do you have a pic?

From your description it sounds more like an egress light.
It's not really built for diving but definitely made to be submerged.

They're placed in ship's passageways in case of a power outage.

Called "battle lanterns." Several threads around here on them. And yeah, not really meant to be submerged, but are reasonably water resistant.
