question : very small reflectors

I really like having the small key chain lights around.
They are great for moving around the house at night and do good on a dark night for outside use.
In particular I use the LightHound one alot -- Here

What I don't like is that I can see the LED. When it is very dark this is somewhat annoying and totally destroys my night vision.
I would like to find some very small reflectors and just glue them on.
I'm not looking to make these things throw just mainly to keep from seeing the LED

Totally agree. Having the LED sticking out is just stupid and means you get an eyeful of glare.

You can get a covert version of the Photon Freedom with a shielded LED, but that's quite a bit more expensive than your LightHound one. With the cheaper ones I just usually stick a little bit of shrink tubing over the LED which shields it quite well (until it drops off !).

+1.. that's what I do with mine! You can use a tiny, and I mean tiny, bit of super glue at the base of the heat shrink to help hold it on. I use a pin or needle with a bit of glue on the tip as an applicator. Don't use the super glue bottle/tube, it'll get everywhere! :ohgeez::laughing:

Could you accomplish the same thing just by painting black (or whatever) fingernail polish around the sides of the LED?

Disclaimer: I bought myself a covert photon freedom micro. I give the cheapies with exposed LED to my wife and in-laws.

That is a good idea, olrac.

Is the light brighter or the same?

What did you use to attach it to the light?

Can you still change the batteries?

Thanks.

No it isn't brighter but it does stop the "backwash" of light from the LED

It is a press fit so I can take it off if I choose to and I can change the batteries with it on.

Yes, exactly like that -- what did you use?

Also, I think I"ll pick up a streamlight nano
which I will order from Lighthound.... which, the order
will come with yet another of those keychain lights (he throws them in
with each order) .. which, I will still need a solution like Olrac has here LOL..

yea, nice little light the photon, but thats not the solution to the
lights I have -- not to mention, I wouldn't spend 12-15 bux on that thing..

The same solution can easily be applied to your current lights.

But it is worth every penny of the $12.95 it costs. It would still be worth twice that. Hands down the best UI of ANY light IMO. But I guess you can't really appreciate it until you try it...

A little piece of shrink tube will do it. Basically the same idea as the "shield" on the Covert. I've used that on a few of my Photons and Fauxtons. Don't need to heat it. You'll lose a little light output but no big deal with these.
