I went to Lowe's today and purchased two 3 D-Cell LED MagLites for $14 each and they are different.

One has an LED that seems to sit further back in the reflector and the LED units themselves are different.

Also, one is a whiter light with a tighter pattern and better throw.

I took both reflectors out and they are indeed different, as well.

What gives?

BTW, will both the Lux 3 and the Rebel (3 D-Cell LED MagLites) take the Malkoff Drop In?

No, the rebel version will not. The Lux version is based off the Incan version, which is what the Malkoff is designed for.

The Lux 3 version is essentially a Incan Maglite 3 cell with a 3 cell MagLED drop-in. It should even have an incan replacement bulb in the tailcap.

The Rebel version is a redesigned version with a deeper reflector, more current LED, and doesn't have an incan replacement bulb.
