i recently bought a fenix ld290, apart from a ringy beam, love it and would like to buy a diffuser, i have found 2, which is better please?

I believe you meant LD20.

I own both diffusers.
Lantern diffuser is exactly what it name suggests. It transforms your flashlight into lantern sou you can hang it somewhere to lit whole room or tent.
Other diffuser appeared with HP10 and is meant to provide floody light. It manages to do that but have several issues - it look like it will break easy, it shines everywhere due to transparent plastic.
Take a peek into this thread about it: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/232136&page=12

Second diffuser is better for walking but you might wish to paint it to prevent blinding yourself.

i did mean ld20 yeah

i kind of assumed the 2nd diffuser was a new design (smaller, more compact than the old lantern diffuser) but meant to do the same thing

i'll go for the 1st one:http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/accessories/fenix_lantern_diffuser.html

thanks man, appreciate it

The older style lantern diffuser is designed to be used as the name suggests - as a lantern, so it will throw light absolutely everywhere. Brilliant if you want to hang it in your tent and light the whole area for example or to be used as a beacon.

The newer flip down version is designed to make a beam a bit more floody - so it won't throw the light absolutely everywhere like the lantern will, but will give you a more floody beam, just with more directionality than the lantern type
